Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Hi everyone... I was away a few days and now trying to catch up!
Just an update on my girls...
Seem to be getting 6 every day now!!
Cleo, my EE, is def. laying a light cream egg because she laid one at 5:30 tonight after screaming and singing her egg song for hours. I had no idea they can lay so late in the day.
I got 2 green eggs today so one must be from Mrs. Puff my whitish EE and the other Izzy. Then, at about 7:00 tonight I was checking on them and Izzy was all puffed up. The other chickens were sort of pecking at her beard and poking her face so I was going to pick her up to see what was going on and she squawked, jumped in the air and an egg fell out of her!! It was a soft egg so I guess it was her 2nd of the day but I have no idea. She seemed ok after about 20 minutes and was eating and drinking so I guess she just couldn't get that glitchy egg out of her. It's always something with these chickens!!

kbh - glad the chicks and ducks arrived. How are they doing tonight? Hope they wry neck goes away. Why do ducks have tape on their feet? I've never had ducks before so I'm clueless.

Here are my chicks at 1 week old, it wasn't easy but I think I got everyone's picture:

Chick 14: Columbian Wyandotte - "Dottie"

They're all so cute!! The only way I could tell my BR and my CM apart was by the legs. BR have yellow on them and the CM is gray so I think this is 2 CM but just a guess! Dottie is adorable! Those CW are such cute chicks :) Can't wait to see your 'splash' chicks as they grow too.

Everyone is doing good. Still have the EE separate from everyone else, she is getting more active but we are still worried about her. My frizzle is def a male I'm thinking, he already has a comb and he is only 3 days old. I do have a question for the campine owners, mine already has a pretty visible comb & she is sup to be a female. Is this normal or did I end up with a male?

Nancy I'm not sure why they put the tape around their legs,I'm assuming for sexing. I got all females and they all had green tape. It was not fun trying to get it off tho. They weren't happy campers at all & they made sure they let EVERYONE know how they felt!

THE HOWARDS- You have more experience than I do with ducks, you know why they have the tape on their legs? Is it for sexing?

All of my single comb chicks had visible combs at a day old, it just depends on what you mean by 'pretty visible'. Is it more obvious than other single comb chicks' combs? I'm trying to think back on my Campine, Ihi. I'll try to find a picture that shows her comb at around that same age. I know she gave me a scare at 3 or 4 weeks old because it seemed like her comb shot up suddenly, but it has remained the same size since and she is most assuredly a girl now. :)

My Cochin bantam (who was from the frizzles but did not inherit the frizzle gene) was not obviously a boy when he was little, but I always assumed he was right from the start. This is him at about 6 days old if you want to compare to your baby:

This is the best I have for comb comparison on my Campine. 10 days old:

Full view for the best look at her comb. Sorry I couldn't find a picture closer to the age of your babies! :/

My frizzles comb looks like yours but his is bent to the side. My campines comb looks like Ihi's but not quite as big, hers is just a tad smaller. I'll try and get pictures in the morning but I've harassed them enough today. Thanks for looking for the pictures.

Hi, hope you don't mind if I join you. I just got my first shipment from Meyer today. 3 Black Frizzle Cochin, 5 Salmon Faverolle ,3 Buff Brahma, 2 Light Brahma , 2 Golden Laced Wyandotte and a Meyer meal maker. I was very happy to see that they all arrived alive and seem to be very active and healthy. I have another shipment coming in 2 weeks. 5 EE, 2 Jersey Giant, 5 Buff orpintons, 2 barred rock and another meal maker. Go big or go home right

All I have right now is one lonesome silkie roo after all of my 20 hens were killed by something that broke into the coop a few months ago.

I was too upset to start over until now, we are working on making the coop impossible, or as close to impossible as we can for something to get in. I can't lose my whole flock again, it was terrible. All of these new fluffies certainly do help my heart though.

I can't wait to see if my 3 frizzles end up with frizzed feathers! Hopefully within the next week I will know.

This is my cute little meal maker. Not sure what she is, I am thinking golden buff. Not 100%

Poohb- congrats on the new chicks & welcome! I got a couple shipments this week also. I totally agree with you btw, go big or go home. Sadly my husband doesn't agree also.

So i guess it's a good thing I have the worst problem sleeping cause I've had to check on the EE every hour or so to make sure she is eating and drinking. Plus my frizzle has had pasty butt. My hubby named the EE heather, that seems to be his lil buddy now. He even told me today to add another one to my sep order & my bday order for next year! I about fell over when he said that:lol:

I had smurf fingers for a few days!

Got a lot of pen explosion questions, then a look of confusion when I said it was for a chicken problem.
Somebody on another thread warned me about that and said to wear a rubber glove, which I did, thank goodness.
Our coop seems so quiet. We have 4 girls at fair this week. Tomorrow is the show and showmanship. Cross your fingers for my daughter that she makes it through. She is super shy about talking to people when she thinks they are judging her. Now at the chicken swap there's no problem and she'll talk people's ears off! lol! I told her to just imagine the judge is a person at the swap interested in learning about chickens. She's not really going for it but hopefully she finds the courage to make it.
Best wishes to your daughter! Exciting! Post pics if you can.
The EE isn't out of the woods yet but I sure hopes she makes it! She is really trying but i think she also got trampled a good bit during shipping.I'm already in love with all of them. I'm gonna have to get a couple more EEs on my next order, those lil guys are addicting!
We love the EE's so much too!

Some of my girls at 4 1/2 weeks old playing in there new straw
Cute! They're growing fast!
Has it really been 4 weeks already?! They sure are cute!

I know these guys aren't from Meyers but I just had to share this picture of my 4 silkies. They were all turned around looking at me and as soon as I grab my phone they turned and gave me a nice pic of their butts
Such cute big fluffy rears!

That's a funny story, I have not seen a hen actually lay an egg yet. I've only seen them go in and come out of the coop and there's the egg. We had a rubbery egg from someone yesterday. I think our BR Pepper is the one with problems, we had one with only yolk and now the rubbery one, so she is getting closer to putting a shell on it. Both eggs had dark yellow yolks though, so once she gets it right, it should be good.

6 eggs is great, a dozen every 2 days! Are you giving them away yet?

Thanks for the advice on the 2 little ones, I think everyone is right then. I did not know about the leg color. I am worried though that one may be a rooster since they do stand so different. I was lucky with my 1st and 2nd orders with not getting roos, so I guess it may be time.

They are all so adorable! I agree with go big or go home!

Our new little ones are replacements for our 13 lost from a dog attack a month ago, so I understand. At first I was just going to stick with the 6 remaining I had left. After awhile I realized I should not let the dog dictate how many chickens I wanted. So sorry for your losses, it is heart breaking.

I had 19 before the attack, I ordered 16 more and have 22 now. Seeing those cute little chicks does help with making you feel better. Congrats on your new little ones!

Your meal maker looks like mine, which is a Golden Buff too.

Good plan, get him to name them, so he gets too attached. My husband is excited that one of our rare breeds is a EE too, so we have 3 EE's in this order and one older EE already. He is getting attached to our little Blue Andulasion too. It's working!

I got some Blukote from TSC yesterday. It was by the Horse stuff. I sprayed it on Lizzie's tail and it seems to be helping so far with the picking. It made her little grey broken feather nubs looks purpley black so they don't notice them as much anymore. When I sprayed it on her she didn't like the spray sound and flailed around and got a big spot on my arm. Now it looks like a bruise. I managed not to get smurf fingers though! Lol

kbh82310: I will try and find you some pictures later today of Lizzie when she was little. Her comb has always been pretty big compared to Lucy's, but she is most definitely a girl.
