Splash Cochin??? (slightly feathered feet) Deleware Not enough feathers to be Cochin or Marans. wrong color for splash; that's a white&black bird

Our first 4 egg day!

We've got 2 more chickens that could lay any day (Amber and Sterling). Can't wait to get a 6 egg day!

Speaking of Amber. Here's a better pic of her.

Had to include Boomerang doing her stretch.

And one of our dogs doing her watchdog duty. This is why I wonder if it was our dogs that attacked Amber. To answer someone's question earlier, there's no way it was another dog. Our backyard is completely fenced.

Yay!!! 4 eggs!! I'm like you, I am waiting for a 6 egg day too since I have 6 at that age. I have had a 5 egg day here and there.

Amber is so pretty, she has that cool coloring and stands like a hen for sure in that picture.

and Boomerang, love her!!!

That was me about the stray, that is a nice fenced in backyard. I'd be wondering what happened too. Your dog looks so sweet.

Thank you! We've got 4 acres and the remaining 40 is for sale (not our land, we'd love to buy at least 20 of it) so it's like living on a ton of gorgeous, rolling land. We moved from the city about 6 months ago, so life is pretty spectacular. The shed is old but the right coop part is all new construction; we covered both the shed and coop with barnboard harvested from the 100+ year old fallen barn. It's got a blue tin roof too which is fun but unfortunately you can't see it here.

So happy for your pullet vote! I never had any doubt and then with her color change... threw me for a loop. Will be exciting to see what happens to her over the next few weeks. And yes, I cannot wait for eggs! I have to get on hubby to build in the nesting boxes soon.

Here's a full body pic of JD. Of course he didn't step right into the sun so he doesn't look quite as sparkling as he is in real life.

Thanks for all the wonderful stories... can't wait to keep sharing :D

That's a neat idea what you did with your coop. I love older structures myself and it's good you could reuse the wood from the fallen barn. JD is a pretty and happy boy, lucky guy with all those hens too. He looks perfect to me, I don't see any faults.

Wow! That's a big egg! We used our first double yoker the other day. We all had to gather around when we cracked it. lol! Not many people would understand that.
My daughter still won't let me use Amber's first egg. She wants me to blow it out so she can save the shell. Her first egg was a double yoker. She also wants to save Mona and Flower's first eggs. What she's going to do with the shell I have no idea. lol

Wow! That's huge :)
Ash deserves some extra worms today!!

Thanks!!! I trust you that they are all girls, but how can you tell? Just for future sexing
Yay. they're so tiny. Mine are so big now, I miss the little ones! Have fun! I hope that they all do well and they are all girls!

Cute! congrats!

I love that variety! they posed so much better then mine did at that age. congrats!

you don't hear too many people on here expressing disappointment in getting more females then expected. Usually the other way around. Are you planning to breed some of them too? The BLRW's maybe. In the future, I'll get one of those, but I have more then I need already and I don't want to chase my husband away. ;)

Well it is always good when you want and can keep a rooster.

Yay for Sunni! Send her over here to talk to Daisy. I guess I will give her until 6 months old before I complain about her again. no promises though. I hope Sunni lays big and healthy looking eggs. It's good to know something that you're doing is working.

We're still on hawk patrol here, a male and female hawk flew right over the chickens while they were free ranging. The little chicks stay inside a lot since the big girls chase them in. Not sure if they are being mean or just protecting them from the hawks. It is nice to think that maybe they're concerned about their safety.

I remember these pics! Cute chicks! (Future note to self: get a Speckled Sussex)

Oops, I am no expert: I meant "I hope that they all do well and (I hope) they are all girls!" Sorry about that, I have to remember that when I type it does not always make sense. My fault.
