Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Daffodil laid her first egg today! It was very tiny. Only one ounce! She laid it in the nest box, thankfully. Lucy has only ever laid one of hers in the box, and she's laid about 6-8 eggs total. I saw her lay one this morning, and it's like it is just a big poop to her. She just squats for a second and then out it comes. Silly birdie. I'm not quite sure how to get her to lay in the nest box. I never know when she has to lay one, so it's not like I can just stick her in the box when she needs to do her lady business.

My Buff Orphington's from Meyer. They're 8 weeks old now!!
They look like they are hiding out after getting into trouble. They are so cute! My BO is so huge now, I forgot she used to be so cute and small like yours.

Loved those pictures of your girls! Some of them have some huge combs!

My BR, Oreo used to always lay eggs on the ground under the nest box. When I would block the area, she would lay her egg on another place on the ground. I finally gave up. Then when Daisy started laying her eggs, I guess Oreo got jealous and she started laying in the nest box too.

So maybe in time she'll follow the others if blocking the areas do not work? Chickens are so stubborn!

21 weeks, still waiting for eggs! I checked hipbones again though... Diamond/SS is now ahead at 2 fingers. Pearl/BA is still about 1.5 and Daisy/CW who has had alot of wattle growth lately is also 1.5 or maybe more. Bianca/WR and Goldie/BO are still 1 and Olivia the EE not even 1 finger, who knows if that girl will ever lay, lol....

Mschickenmomma, its funny my BA is two weeks younger than yours, but has WAY more comb and wattle development.

I know! I was looking at everyone else's BA's, and I have realized that Lilly is developing very slow. Her wattles are starting to grow more, but her comb has been the same size since she was about 18 weeks. She's a big girl though. She is bigger than most of my adult hens.

Daffodil (my BO) is huge as well. I always forget that she used to be this tiny little thing that would sit in my lap. :love Sunni is a bit smaller than Daffodil.

I would try blocking off areas with Lucy, but the thing is that she doesn't have a specific spot that she lays them. She just lays the egg wherever she happened to be standing at the time. :/ Maybe once Lizzie starts laying eggs she'll start laying in the nest boxes. Lizzie and Lucy sometimes seemed attached at the hip (if chickens have hips  ). They do everything together. Annie and Alice too.

I think it's amazing how chickens hang out in color groups. All of my different breeds tend to travel in little packs. It's the cutest thing! :love

The race is on, which one will lay first!

I'm still rooting for Daisy!

My Daisy the White Rock is going crazy today. Apparently everyone in the neighborhood needs to know that she is going to lay an egg. She only has been laying 1 or 2 a week since she just started. I finally caught her in the nest box too. She is in the top right one in the picture, but finally settled into the top left one. Ash actually laid hers in the top left box today too. They have never used those top two boxes before, I am glad they are starting to use them. They'll need all four boxes once the little ones start laying too. (That's a golf ball and fake egg under her) I wish she would quiet down, she gets the others started loudly clucking too, think the neighbors are at work so hopefully no complaints.

Mine get pretty loud too. I cringe sometimes and hope everyone has their windows shut!

Loved your pics... especially the ones up close. Chickens have so much character! yay for Daffodil. That is so funny about Lucy squatting and dropping her egg like that. Most of mine are such drama queens yelling about it before during and after.

Yours isn't that tiny of an egg... I got one today, I think a first from my Nancy Brahma, it weighed .4 ounces!! It was so cute. Perfectly formed and a tiny little yolk inside. She laid it in the run too.
I'm hoping it's hers and not my last EE.

Holy cow!! That's a tiny egg! I didn't think to weigh it at the time, but a few years ago I got an egg that was just a tiny bit bigger than a penny. I wish I had gotten a picture of it or something. I actually cooked it up and ate it.

I live in the country (kind of) and I still worry about complaints from the neighbors. Only two people (one is me) have farm animals in our neighborhood. The guy down the street has cows and I think a couple chickens. Everyone else pretty much only lives out here for the privacy. My girls aren't too terrible loud, but my rooster is twice as loud as the hens. When he freaks out I can hear him in the house with all of the windows closed, and my coop is 300+ ft from the house!

Ellie laid her first egg today, and each one she lays gets more and more blue! This morning she laid one and it is so beautiful. :love I wish I had a better camera that would capture the color right so I could show everyone.
