Oops, they must have 'accidentally' packed an extra Dorking... :D

Question: my boys are seven and half weeks old. At this point with the girls, I switched them to grower/finisher and then layer when they started laying. I really want to integrate the boys, but should they be eating layer pellets already?? I heard 8 weeks old is the magic number for integration.

Okie-dokie, here they are! :weee

They actually packed the Dorkings twice, so I nearly ended up with four of them! However, my coop is not big enough for that many more birds on top of the others I plan to get from a breeder nearby, so I had to send back two of the Dorkings. Luckily, they were in separate boxes, so I didn't get the chance to look at them and be guilted into taking them anyway. But we got five healthy and already quite active chicks, so I'm happy! :D

In the confusion, I forgot to say hi for y'all. Sorry! It was a looong trip and I'm glad to be home now! Phew!

I love them all! I can't wait to get my marans. They are so soo sooo cute

I agree they are all adorable! But those Marans are super cute! I'm glad I added one to my order! Mine is tentatively named Collette...French name for a French origin bird!

I know I am excited too!

I hope everything goes good for her. she is going to be a good momma orp! She only leaves the nest really early in the morning I kept watch one day and that was the only time she left. Since I picked the eggs up at Meyer hatchery I am hoping for a good hatch rate, as long as my girl is doing her part! lol I know when you get a broody you will be just as excited!
Oh wow! I love all your girls!

The beards are my favorite thing with the ee's! mine are small right know but I can't wait to see what they will look like when they get their big girl adult feathers! That's to bad about your dog getting into those babies, but we do have to remember they are animals no matter how friendly they are to us. Unfortunately I learned that the hard way, I lost 2 of my girls to my own dog.

Sounds like she is a dedicated Mama already and it is good that you picked up your eggs. So many bad stories about shipped eggs.

I lost 13 chickens just beginning to lay eggs last Summer, so I live in fear of dog attacks. One thing great about now is that our whole back yard is fenced in now, different then last year. We'll just keep doing the way we have been, locking up our dog while they range or at least keeping her on a leash so she can watch but not chase.

Nice little oops there!

Oh and this is the guy I've decided to keep...
You can see how fluffy his cheeks are especially in this one

I hope he won't crow too loud or all night long.
So cute, it'll be neat to see those babies once he is old enough.

Okie-dokie, here they are!

Adorable and great names! Congrats on your little ones! Wish I went with you, I'd secretly take that extra box of chicks!

All these chicks and breeds, my want list keeps filling up!!

I added wood chips to the run and they are a mix of cedar and pine. Smells so much better now and the girls like them. Here are a few pics of some of them. I made sure to add in my 3 EE's, beards and all.

Blackie - BA

Here is the one surviving cardinal. Our dog Maxie killed one and injured the other before we caught her. She is for sure not going to be around our chickens. They will free range at separate times. We had her on a leash around them and she lunge at one of my EE's. She is a great protector of night predators, but is a killer. She has killed 3 opossums over the past few years and one raccoon. I am so mad at her for killing the baby birds, but I guess this is just the way she is, otherwise she is a good dog and we did have her first so we'll just have to work around this to protect our chickens.
I always love your EE's!! All are so pretty but Buffy always makes me smile. So sad about the baby birds but that's what dogs do sometimes. And she killed 3 possum and a coon?? She's a keeper in my book. Those coons are nasty critters.
The wood chips makes it look so nice and fresh. Bet it smells nice too. Your Blackie is so big like my Chugg! Pretty bird :)
