Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

You really like to tempt me don't you?:D

Nice looking coops, can you see them in person too? Just to make sure they are predator proof and the size you want. Check any reviews about them too. You may have already done all this, but just in case.

Of course I like to tempt you!!!

I can't go see the coops in real life, but I've read quite a few reviews from here. They are predator proof for the most part. I plan on putting pavers down to make even more predator proof. I know we have racoons around here as seen on the road, but I'm not sure how close to the residential areas they will come. I staked out the measurements today outside, to make sure the coop would fit in the area I want, and we are good there. Now to just decide if I want it up on risers or not...

My advice is just to predator proof as much as possible. A hungry animal will go wherever there is food. I've just read too many horror stories. And honestly, you'll sleep better knowing nothing's getting in there. I don't regret spending the extra money for peace of mind. BTW, I like those coops! I hope they are everything you're looking for.

I completely agree. One nice thing I really like is that the locks on the coop and egg box are not just sliding bolts, but ones that you can actually buy a small key lock for. Since I live in an urban setting, I also worry about 2 legged intruders coming & causing mischief - like opening the doors to my run or stealing my eggs! I know it's a simple fix to install a different lock clasp, but it's nice that I won't have to...just add lock. And I will make sure to have the key on one of those key chains bracelets so I don't "accidentally" get locked in either.

I just wanted to express my appreciation to all the lovely caring folks on this thread. Knowing that others understand and can sympathize that its not easy to give away a chick you've bonded with since day one, makes me feel stronger. Seriously this is the best thread, even if its not always "on topic" its a great combination of advice and pictures and it feels like a community. The five girls are doing very well and are much quieter and well behaved at bedtime :)

We are here for you! And I totally agree that this is the best group of people. We should consider ourselves our own "club"...except we aren't cliquey unless you are mean 1st...then we just shower you with kindness and hope you turn your your frown upside down.

And who cares about being on topic all the time! We bring it back to Meyer's eventually - some of us stalk their page enough!

Well, I did it - I emailed Meyers and had them take off the Australorp female to make way for the Cream Legbar I KNOW they will have available for my hatchday!!! :)

If I regret it, then I can always add one next year...

I'm making sure I will have plenty of room as I make the final decision on a coop. I'm having a hard time deciding between these 2 coops:

Option 1:

Option 2 - same triple run, just on a platform so it's higher

Nice looking coops. I always say go as big as you can. If you measure and you're happy with how it would look in your yard, I would go for the one on risers. Are they going to free range too? If not, it would allow you to put some branches or other things for them to hang out on, or hang a cabbage etc..

I picked up some hatching eggs at Meyer Friday. 3 buff orps and 3 black australorps! So excited can't wait!

here is a picture of her on the new broody box I built her the other was just a small dog carrier till I could find or build something bigger. Sorry the photos are not that great of quality

Sorry was trying to get the photos to go bigger!
Awww, so sweet. Good luck and keep us posted! Since you picked up the eggs rather than shipping hopefully you will have a good hatch rate. Is this your first time attempting a broody hatch?

I completely agree!! And so glad things are calm with your girls. They're probably breathing a sigh of relief :)

Both are basically the same square footage...one is just a little taller. I will definitely add a swing, dust bath, some roosts in the run, etc. I don't have a fenced in area in the yard and can't put in anything permanent since I'm a renter. I'm eventually going to make some chicken tunnels but that will be later once I'm recovered from the $$$ of getting started. I'm going as big as I possibly can! Both will fit in my yard...I think the one on risers would be easier on my back, etc but my kiddo will need to use a step stool. That's fine but he's going to be a tall one, so it won't be for long!
