Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Thanks everyone! Yeah...free kid with purchase! Or weird new breed for chicken...either way he's kind of cute! And sometimes a good helper!!!

Today we are going to attempt to do the Blackjack 57 treatment on the floor of the coop & nest boxes. Then tomorrow start painting the inside of the coop. Hopefully next week I can buy the paint for the outside - if I can ever decide between 2 shades of blue!!!

My new coop is here!!! I decided to go with the local handyman I found on craigslist who builds coops as a side job. This coop is pretty darn nice & he delivered/set it up for me.

It's the one I posted the link here before. I am going to customize a few things: add some more ventilation, change the roost setup, add a poop board. But those are very minor things in the grand scheme of things.

Tomorrow I am going to go get a 1 gallon container of Blackjack 57 and get the floor and part of the sides coated. When that dries, I will start on painting the inside using light colored "oops" paint. The outside is going to be a dark blue with grey accents.

SOOO EXCITED!!! IT's REAL!!!!
Nice coop! Congrats! Would love to see more pics of the chicks this weekend in between your painting of course!

Well, it is pic update time! I am taking weekly pics of everyone to chronicle their growth. Man chickens grow quickly!!! My orps are still bigger around than they are tall...they are like weeble wobbles!

Did anyone see the hugachicken post on FB? I reposted it on my page if you want to see it... Margie Thompson Mardiros... Ohhhh so cute! Just friend request with a message saying BYC, so I know it is one of you.
Sadly I'm one of the few without FB. I can sometimes sneak on through my son's page.

I had to look up the hugachicken thing. How cute!
OMG... that's the cutest thing ever!! I want a huggable chicken!!!

Personally I always go darker than I think I should. I love color and always go with stronger colors and then trim is a light color to make it really pop. My kitchen is a very dark sage green and light cream cabinets. It freaked me out at first when it was done and all I could think of was 'avocado green' from the 60's. I lived it once don't need to do it again. But I loved it after I got over that.
Can't wait to see it!!!

:) I saw it a month or two ago on FB, sooo cute! That little neck wiggle is how our Buff hugs, though she does it when she's on my lap, I love it! A couple other stories here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/896272/hugging-chicken More cute: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/726736/chicken-hugging and apparently my birthday is National Hug a Chicken Day- November 5th.

We held our chickens 3 times a day everyday and we each held our own chicken so they knew who we were... except me, I held them all... Now we are down to 2 times a day, but they are still snuggly... my EE flaps and clucks, but once she is settled in, she is a SUPER SNUGGLER... she likes to be talked to... my kids are 7 and 9 and did wonderfully holding the baby chicks. They are 2 1/2 months now.

With 22 baby chicks in one shipment, I would have had to quit my job to handle them all 3 times a day. I would definitely try it with a smaller batch!
