Our possible Barnevelder, been trying to capture her coloring and feathering pattern. Made the mike of posting in the Barnevelder thread asking for help to id. Well once they heard it was from hatchery they blasted me nod the birds. Said they were not a true Barnevelder and doesn't fit the markings, breed standard, etc. like I giving a flying fig, I think they re beautiful!

It's actually plain yogurt. It just reminded me of the Got Milk ads, which was not milk either but a combination of sour cream, cream cheese and ice cream. So, I guess I am entitled to some poetic license.

Just for fun, here is another photo I took. This is Reba, an RIR, with her wattles dipped in yogurt.

The girls loved the yogurt. They really went to town. It looked like they were having a pie eating contest. Specks of yogurt were flying everywhere! Who knew that watching chickens eat yogurt could be so entertaining?

I love your barnevelder(sp?) because it looks like it is hiding candy corn in the feathers! I picture children chasing her yelling 'Just one!' and her running because she doesn't know they want her half-hidden candy corn

Thanks for asking! @LynnEBC , thanks for asking about Andre, as well! I started replying to your posts this morning and somehow never submitted. It was one of those days!

Andre appears to be doing well. Her tail feathers were back up, she was moving around as well as the others - not falling asleep standing up in the middle of the run like the other day, and her crop appeared to be normal size. I think she has made it through. I will continue to give all of the birds yogurt at least once a week to help their digestion and, of course, make sure they have plenty of grit!

Boo, my white EE, is still a little gun shy around the other girls. There are a few that continue to peck at her and try to scare her away but, they are not as bad as when I first moved her into the big coop, and when they do try to bully her, she now moves just far enough to get out of their way but does not hide under the coop all day. So, that is a relief! She is adorable and I hated to see her picked on! So, all in all, I think the integration went well.

Oh, sorry about your Cochin being broody, again. Hard to believe!

Isn't touring Colleges fun? I think I went to at least 8 different campuses for each of my 3 kids. I could run an admissions program, now!

Glad Boo is starting to fit in. Hopefully eggs are coming soon!!

My only Andalusia (splash) laid her first egg today! She is my first laying white egg layer.

It's next to one of my barred rock girls that's the same age. They are 23 weeks old. The BR started a few days ago. The Andalusia egg is not really white but more like a cream color. But still very exciting.

Never gets old does it? Nice size too!!

Your first pic looks just like the pic on Meyer site so that's what I would think as well. Yup, most of us have learned to stay away from the breed specific threads after getting pounced on.

Yes, I love going to visit schools! My kids only want non-city schools.... has to be a pretty campus; we are just not city people. But we had to go from PA to CT yesterday and the directions were to go over the GW bridge OMG... I don't know how people live around there. A 1 1/2 hour trip took over 4 1/2!! All because of the bridge area.

If he picks one of those schools I will have to find another route!

I went to school in CT. Luckily there is a pretty good (and affordable) train system on the east coast (e.g. MetroNorth). It certainly makes getting to/from/through NYC easier. (Just noticed you're from Penn so you probably knew this already).

I have been avoiding it honestly, but after seeing everyone's spreadsheets and charts, I have decided it's time to figure out how much I am spending per egg. So, once I opened the new feed bag, I started tracking eggs and other expenses. I'm kinda nervous to figure it out because I'm sure it's expensive especially since I have seven more girls coming!

Speaking of, how do you feed a mixed flock? I figure the new ones will be separated until at least 8 weeks. I usually stop chick starter and move to grower/finisher at that point. If I integrate then, do I feed everyone grower with oyster shell available? Or flock raiser with oyster shell available? Is there even much difference between the two? Something in pellet form though definitely! Much much less waste!!
