Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I can't believe it either!  I have a box in the coop that would keep them separated after their quarantine time in the house.  It worked wonderfully for the littles when I integrated them in to the coop.  I already have customers lined up for the eggs.  And I'll be donating some as well.  If I did this it would be the last ones unless I ended up needing replacements for some reason.

These are what I'm thinking of (if I don't sit too long and they are sold out!)

1 lavender orpington
2 exchequer leghorn

Awesome selection! I don't know much about the German Spithauben, but the others should be good layers for you. I'd say go for it! It's like having kids - one is a huge adjustment, two is twice the work, three doesn't add that much more, especially when you have them close together like I did! You would be just adding a little more craziness to craziness!

I wanted to pass a bit of useful info on to all of you.  When quoting someone to replay  to them when they have a lot of pictures, you can right click on the picture  and a grid box will appear with little triangle points along the outline of the picture.  If you click on one of those points,  you can shrink the picture so that the poster can still see their picture, but for the rest of us, we won't be scrolling though pages and pages of photos that we have all ready seen.  For an example, I quoted myself and shrunk the picture so as you can all see how easier it is to keep it trim, and not blow up pages and pages with the same photo graphs.  You can also only use one photo graph as not to see all the same ones.  Just a little tip to make life easier.

Only 7 days  till my new group of 3 comes!  Yippie!

Thanks for the tip! I usually try to cut out as much of a post that I can before submitting a response but sometimes I forget or I want to show the photo that I am responding to. I never knew that you could alter the size!

And, Yippie!! So cool that you are getting close to your hatch date!

I agree. I'd do it. You have the space and the customers. Couldn't be better!

The little Buff died and all of a sudden another Buff is looking horrible and a Leghorn too! We'll see.  Do they send replacements s if more die?

Believe it or not, Bo Bo is the nickname of one of the San Antonio Spurs players (I have no idea who) and my son is a huge fan... even though we are in PA. So that's where Patty Patty came from (named after Patty Mills) and now Bo Bo. It was either that or he wanted 'The Land Walrus" cause that's the nickname of another player.    Happily he chose BoBo.

That is going to be amazing!!  I think it is a sign you have so much hardware cloth leftover... you just have to use it!  So glad you DH is feeling well enough to take on a new project. I bet it's going to be great... so much fun isn't it?

They will send replacements for anything that dies within 48 hours. They don't want you to give them the count until that time up. We have had multiple batches of replacements sent. If you don't meet the minimum order you have to offer more but they don't charge shipping. Or you can take a credit.

Hey everyone!

I am sorry about your little chicks passing Nancy.. it is so tough to wait this long and with the anticipation and then to have that happen.  I am sure Meyer will get it right for you, even if it means waiting on the breed you want a little longer.

Thanks for the tip. I wish more people knew that. Now scrolling through full size quotes pics week be even more annoying. ;)

@trsturself BTW, I was looking back at your blog to look at fermenting feed again, and I saw the sewing table you refinished. It's amazing! Very nice job.

Ah thanks! I'm going to try to write up our fireplace remodel tonight.

Oh my he is so handsome! does he do good around chickens?

He's great around all animals, large and small. Very calm guard dog who observes everyone and patrols the perimeter. He especially likes children (they get their faces licked if they aren't careful). But the other two can't be trusted around birds (or mice, moles, voles, rabbits, possum, squirrels, chipmunk, frogs, snakes, bugs, and most other small living things). That's what the mini-Schnauzer is bred to do -- hunt small animals -- and he did it instinctively from quite a young age. Then he taught the mastiff/boxer mix to do it. It's kind of amusing watching all 100 lbs of her go tearing after a tiny vole. Our fourth dog (not in pic) is only 10 lbs, so not much danger to anything except the smallest animals. Although she and one of our cats like to romp.

Oh no....that extra day in shipping must have really been stressful for them.

I did get replacements when I had ordered in 2012 since I had 2 die from shipping and 1 a day later. They gave me the credit for 3 and I ordered 3 additional and I didn't have to pay for shipping the replacements, so of course I added the additional ones. Give it the minimum amount of time to report the deaths and then give them a call, they are so helpful. The only problem is getting the same ones that you lost, but I believe the Golden Buffs are always available.

I hope that you do not lose more though, so sorry about the one.

Yes, so true about the hardware cloth. We finished all that we needed now and still have a lot left on the roll too!

It is so much fun building again, I missed it. The sand box is done now except for a coat of paint on the roof to protect it from the weather. I wanted to paint it today, but it is so hot out there.

I forgot how old your son was, I guess he was not trying to be cute with the name! Oops...
LOL... the son that named him is 17... the one I'm looking at colleges with. That's funny!!!

Should I, or shouldn't I? I have a 10x16 coop and a 20X30 run (which they still haven't used!). I already have 26 chicks that are 3 months and 2 months

I have an order sitting to submit to Meyer for 8 more. I wanted to add a couple of white layers and a couple of olive eggers.

Am I just being impulsive?

Oy!
I can't imagine anyone here is going to tell you no, don't do it, haha. But seriously, it seems like you have the room for it and it is so nice to have a colorful egg basket. I just ordered 2 EL's for the white eggs too. And would love an OE!! I would do it.

Thanks. I already did a live chat and they have over 500 GB available for next week so I will prob. get the 2 and add a third one of something else. Or maybe just 3 GB. Oh the tough decisions we have to make right? I asked at the barn I work at if she wanted any since it would be free shipping (that's where she got the chicks and they had mites and now her 2 Salmon Faverolle's died and we're treating for Cocci AND 2 are roosters so she went from 14 down to 10 pretty fast) but she can't deal with new chicks right now. I just figured it would be good to get a few extra to help them stay warm. I would think I could sell them on CL.

Oh yay! He is very calm around the girls now but he is still a puppy and will have a spurt of a chase and just stop. Do you have him fenced in or does he stay in your yard? About half the people I talk to say they need to be fenced because they will take off and the other half say they stay in their yard and never roam

Ours definitely needs to be fenced, or he will take himself on a walk (literally - if he gets out he will follow the exact route we use for our long walks with him, ending up back at our house eventually). I know some Great Pyrs that learn their territory and just stick to it without the need of fences. But most of them live on large properties, whereas we don't, so that might be a factor. And if ours had more animals to guard, he might stick closer to our property as well (i think he really would like it if we had sheep; birds, cats and other dogs just aren't satisfying enough for him). One thing I've been told, and believe based on our experiences with our Great Pyr, is that those 'invisible' fences with the shock collars just don't work for them. Ours has a very high pain tolerance, and I think would just ignore the shocks.

But I definitely have no worries about him around birds. He's not much for chasing anything (even balls or sticks). Not even as a puppy - he never really seemed to get the point of 'fetch'. If you throw a stick he looks at you like 'well if you wanted that stick, why did you do something dumb like throw it over there?'. But he's a natural at guarding. :D

I think you could sell a few as chicks or as started pullets on Craig's list. That is definitely an option. So, I wouldn't worry about being stuck with too many. But, I would plan on being able to sell at least 2 because most people don't want just one chick. They do better in pairs.

Are you at all concerned about bringing anything back with you from the barn where you work? Do you change clothes and/or shoes before you go to your coop? Especially now that you have little ones that are just starting with medicated feed.
