The guy I bought the coop from in June told me he would bring the door in a week... never heard from him (and I hadn't paid for the coop so I wasn't worried he had disappeared or anything). Last month I got a bill from him and I reminded him I was waiting on my automatic door... he totally forgot so he said he'd bring it in a week. That was 4 weeks ago. No call or email saying he was installing the door for me so I had no idea it was in there!! The door beeps for a full minute and then rattles down the chain loudly (I need to oil it) and it just freaked the little girls out!!! They've slept in there for 3 1/2 months and then the day I am going to move them to the big coop and I wanted them all relaxed and calm he installs the door... LOL... Murphy's law!!

Ok, so I see on FB this announcement from Meyer: Big announcement via email tomorrow. Are you signed up and ready to hear the news?
Anyone have any idea what it is???
Just an update from my crew - the girls are all loading themselves into the coop at night each night & roosting up!!! My rooster is being a pain!!! He wants to sleep outside and pecked at me tonight when I went to pick him up! I usually leave a security light on at night to ward off predators (it hits the side of the coop without any windows), but tonight I left it off...let's see how he likes being locked out of the coop AND in the dark!
Don't worry, the run is predator proof and locked up tight...he will just be sleeping alone tonight.
My friend who was going to re-home him for me has had a major issue - apparently a mink got into her coop a decimated all of her hens. She only has 3 roosters left out of 30. So I don't think sending Coco there would be good - no hens to play with. He will have to stay with me for right now.
Other than that, everyone is loving their coop & run!
Ha Ha yes, I'm sure owning chickens, or any animals for that matter, will give tons of good stories over time. Actually it was 2 of my 4 EE's that laid brown!! I did have an EE go broody and she's my only EE that doesn't squat and probably only picked up 3 times her whole life cause she just is not a people kind of chicken. I had to put her in the garage at night cause she'd start screaming in the cage in the run at first light.LOL! I beginning to think it's "Nancy's Law!" First, you have an EE that lays a brown egg, 2 CCLs that lay green eggs, and, if I remember correctly, you have had some broodies that are not broody breeds and now this! Jeesh! Can a girl catch a break? At least you have some good stories to tell.![]()
I did the same and have 21 chickens and more then 10 breeds. It's good to try out different ones to see which breeds are your favorites.I ordered 20 chicks it was my first time with chickens so I ordered 10 different breeds (I know)
She seems real nice, wish I could find someone here like her.I was thinking $20/ea for the CCL. I bought the pair for $20 but she felt bad and gave me a deal since I had already tried to hatch 20 eggs of hers and only had 1 hatch. She was also super nice and gave me the second batch of eggs for free since the first batch was a dud. I'm sure it wasn't the eggs fault, but she still only charged me $3 for gas.![]()
Good question! So, let us in on the secret. What's the earliest that you can order for next year?
We still have a few molting but I think most of the brown layers are done except for one of the CM's. I am only getting a few white eggs lately and a green egg here and there, so I guess they are finishing up their molt. The only one molting bad is my PR, she looks pitiful. She squats for me but I just barely pat a little part of her back since I know those new feathers coming in will probably hurt her if I touch them. She has no tail now and just looks so bad.Still hoping one of my EE's lay a blue egg... that would be cool. But I do love my green eggs too!!
Glad production is up. My RIR stopped laying a few weeks ago but I wasn't seeing any feathers of hers flying around so I was getting concerned it was something else going on. Today, lots of red feathers so just the normal molt. Thank goodness. I miss her dark brown eggs though. My skelter is all pastel shades. Hopefully my GB add some dark eggs to the mix.
I was wondering the same thing. I thought I was signed up but didn't see the email, maybe I need to check my junk folder.Ok, so I see on FB this announcement from Meyer: Big announcement via email tomorrow. Are you signed up and ready to hear the news?

I'll have major choice issues in December now. Order then? Wait for a free shipping special in the spring? or just pick up a few at TSC in the spring. What will I do?Awesome! It's on my calendar!!
That is so true. There is always something happening that makes a good story. You seem to win on the unusual things though!Ha Ha yes, I'm sure owning chickens, or any animals for that matter, will give tons of good stories over time. Last week I asked my teen son to run out and check for eggs and I told him if Cleo the scary EE was still in the nest don't don't move her to get eggs (she'll bite). Naturally he thought I said 'move' her and get eggs so he got bit. He was quite shocked and had no idea cute fluffy birds bit. He thought they were all timid.
I have to say, I was disappointed with the big email from Meyer this morning. The chick availability update did not include any on my list for next year (cause I probably would have just got them now) AND I'm not that interested in the cover contest. Although I think @jonsccm should submit that pic of the barred rock roster. (I think it was the BR).
Glad her second egg went better, I cannot wait for colored eggs.Clara laid her second egg today...Comparison: Left- store egg, middle- today's egg, right- Tuesday's egg
They aren't quite this green, egg photos are tricky sometimes they look too pale, sometimes too dark, too green or too blue.
Our walls actually have a bit more yellow in them, likewise the egg isn't quite this blue. But I'm glad it reads as blue against green.
thanks on Honey. Lol on the egg weight, I read the scale wrong, yes it is 30 grams. I have gotten three eggs so far, I think for the same girl. They all are 30 grams. Do the BR lay smaller light brown eggs? I think it is the head hen, which is a. BR named pepper. I haven't caught her I the act yet. Seems like I am trying to stalk the chickens to figure out who is laying.I have 4 golden buff, 4 Rhode Island Red, 3 buff Orpington, 3 black Australorp, 3 Delaware, 2 barred rock, 2 Dominique, and 2 Easter Eggers. Definitely a good variety but, like everyone else here, I could always stand some more! I assume that 3 grams was a misprint. I think that's the size of a peanut M&M. Lol The smallest egg that I have gotten was 33 grams and that is considered PeeWee. Most of my eggs range from small to large, another reason that I have t started selling them yet. I am hoping that the eggs will get bigger soon and be more uniform in size. At least they are pretty colors. I am so sorry about Honey. She was beautiful and your avatar of her always make me smile.!
