Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Mine has a little mini crest too.... so cute. She's 6 weeks today too... maybe they are sisters??

You can barely see it sticking up in these pics... I'll try to get better photos. These were over a week ago.
My girl (Shady) always looks like she needs a little gel to get it to go down!
Yes, I will post pictures too! I only was able to get 2, off the overhatch list. I definitely want to order more, can't wait for eggs. Of the two I received, one is more black, the other more gray, with very light lacing. Very pretty birds. I hope to get a good picture. I have to buy a nice camera. They look exactly the same! Yes, pehaps they are related for sure!

So I was so psyched I found a blue egg in the nest today!!! I think it was from my last EE to lay. But then when I showed it to my DH his hands were wet and when he touched it it turned green.... the water took the bloom off and it's actually green. LOL I'll have to wait to see if it was from her and then of course I won't wash it and it will look blue. But I know it's green so it's not the same thing. Looks like I am still on my quest for a blue egg layer!!

Here's a few pics from last week. Not Meyer girls.... any updated guesses on my Silkie???? She's 5 months today!!

Leyla above.... lays a pretty green egg.

Eva... Cream Brabanter

These 2 CCL are just best friends and love to lay their egg together!! So cute :)

I almost didn't recognize you with the new 'do! LOL I'd still call the egg blue. Clean eggs are so overrated!! ;)

I'm pretty sure our silkie we thought was a girl is actually a roo. He started getting streamers from the crest, and his comb grew over night. He is 6 months old. His hatchmate I've known was a male from a very young age but this one was slow to mature and doesn't act like a roo much since he's all the way down on the pecking order of roos. I am fairly convinced after today. My friend moved back from KS today and we moved her chickens into our area (separated but they can see each other) for her temporarily. He started doing the roo fighting through the fence with their silkie roo.

That means we'll be getting rid of our other silkie roo and keeping him because I like his coloring better.

I discovered our EE, Amber, has bumble foot. Not too bad yet, she wasn't limping or anything. My daughter's friend was holding her and I happen to look over and saw the scab on her foot. It isn't red or very swollen. Hopefully it will cure with a soak and wrap just like it did for our D'Uccle.
I gave them some roosts in the run so they could get off the wet ground (we've had a really wet summer) but they don't really use them. I'm going to bring her in tomorrow for a good soak and also try to check all of the chickens.
It seems like a lot of you on here with silkies are ending up with roosters.
Oh no, bumble foot? I hope that it heals well and quickly.

No problem, we are all here to help you!

Oh my goodness! I hate hawks sooo much (although some of them are beautiful)We have also had a close encounter like you! But just in my case our goats chased the hawk off (they had kids so they must have thought it was going for that!) I was sooo thankful to the goats 'cause I didn't want to loose a chicken!

I hope she heals 100% soon! She is really cute, I love polish chickens!
Hmmm,,,goats? Neat idea! My husband would leave me, so I guess we'll stick to the one dog.

How scary!! I'm on the lookout for them this time of year. Seems like there's a lot more around than in the summertime.

Oh that sounds awful! Thank goodness for your dogs.

Do you have a pic of your Silkie roo? I'm still on the fence about mine. He/she is 5 months old today. I heard a crow several weeks ago but not since then so now I'm wondering if I dreamed it? LOL
I would think there would have been more crows since then if he is indeed a he.

I didn't realize they could get crests. That is adorable. I can't wait to see her full grown.

I was wondering who that was for a moment. Love the new avatar! I should change mine too, it's been the same forever.
Great pictures of your flock!

and I would agree...keep it dirty and call it blue

OK.... I'm quoting myself.... I think I asked about sex a few hours to early.... Patty Patty was singing the egg song and sitting in a nest.... so maybe an egg soon????

I'd still call the egg blue. Clean eggs are so overrated!!

I totally agree! That's a blue egg. I'd be happy with it
LOL... we'll see what the next one looks like. It was def. my EE Lola that laid the pseudo blue egg... I got 4 pullet sized eggs today. 3 green and one 'blue' so both CCL and both EE's are laying!
Now waiting on the Brabanters and Silkie!

I never wash my eggs so keeping it dirty is no problem for me!! Can't wait to see her next one. Hopefully it stays fake-blue!
Here is Lola the fake blue egg layer:

 I have a few hens that lay 'pink' eggs, but they turn plain brown when they get wet. I also have a Wyandotte that lays these lovely beige eggs with purplish spots, and when they get wet they look beige with rust spots! Pretty either way, in my opinion! I'm holding out for nice blue eggs from my Legbar--although if she doesn't deliver, it gives me an excuse to look at getting some Ameraucanas next year... I think your Silkie is a girl, by the way. By 5 months, I'd expect to see more comb on a boy. Don't hold me to it, though. I was sure my Silkie was a boy for a while, but luckily I was wrong on her. Oh, let me look up some pictures of my speckled Sussex at that age and see if the comparison helps out! :) It seems to me like I've read that the boys have more white on their chests, though.

I agree your silkie is a girl. Our's have much larger crests than that and have for awhile.

So my friend's chickens are in the separate area we were going to use as a breeder pen. It has a coop about 7x7 and an attached, enclosed run. Last night was their first night. I checked on them when I put my flock away and they were all huddled on and under a tree branch in the corner of the run. I couldn't get in the run to move them all inside (20+). DH gets home around 11 and about a half hour later says, "Oh, I meant to tell you when I got home, your goats sounded weird, you might want to check on them." So I go out on the back patio and shine a flashlight out there. I see two eyes over by the chicken's run looking back at me. Far enough away to be out of the goats area and on the far back corner of the chicken run. I tell DH to come out with me. We go out there and the goat is inside the chicken run. Don't know how she got there but I figured that must've been why she was making odd cries. So I let her out and go back inside. This morning I went out to let my flock out and feed/water everyone, and saw one of her birds dead in the run. I figured it was stress. After all they just made an 8 hour trip in the back of a moving van on a warm day. It was outside of my reach so I left it until my friend could get here and her daughter could climb the fence and get it. Later in the day DH goes around the other side of the run to do something and calls me and says, "it wasn't a stress death". He went in and got her and her head had been ripped off. We found the spot where it happened. Looks like something reached through the fence and grabbed her and tried to pull her through. :(
Luckily it was an older hen and not a favorite so they weren't totally bummed.

We put expanded metal around the base of their run today to prevent it from happening again. We went out tonight and picked up each bird and put them through the pop door so they'll figure it out. 3 birds were already in there and 3 had made it into our side and were roosting with our birds (lol), so hopefully the rest will catch on tomorrow or the next day.
DH hung the dead bird to a post within shooting range of the house and keeps checking on it hoping to catch whatever it was. I'm guessing raccoon even though I've never seen any around here.
