Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

My Meyer welsummer lays a normal brown egg. About the color of a store bought brown egg and about the same (sometimes a tad darker) than my BA egg. Definitely not as dark as I'd hoped. She is on the list of possible-to-rehome if I need to make room for more girls. ;)

Aww, don't say that! :tongue Well, either way, my girls are pets so they're all here to stay. :) Still, really hoping for nice dark eggs from the BCMs at least! :fl

I'm definitely adding an austra white to my wish list for next year now!!

@rnchick74 I was using ACV until the weather got warm. It really turned the water funky in the warm weather. I guess the weather may be mild enough to go back to it. I had honestly completely forgotten about it. Thanks!
Yeah - you don't want to use ACV in warm water as it alters the Ph of the water too much...but now it should be fine. In the warm water you can use Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE). It will be a little $$, but it is thick and only a few drops (15 per gallon if memory serves) are needed. It doesn't have the probiotic action that ACV does, but it is an excellent anti-viral and natural antibacterial...some think it might be a wormer as well, but I haven't seen any good scientific literature showing this effect.

You can also mix it in a spray bottle & use to clean, much like distilled vinegar.

They are both gorgeous!

I love my Marans. There's something so attractive about those black spots on that Austra white, though. Don't worry about the name--I have a Wyandotte I call Lady Wyandotte because nothing else fit.

I'm guessing Aurora isn't laying yet? I'm wondering what color she might lay. Hopefully a nice, dark brown! My Meyer splash Marans, Frou-frou, lays a pretty basic brown egg, even a little lighter than some of my other brown eggers. She only lays about 30-40 bantam-sized eggs a year, though, so maybe it's just her. I got my two Black Coppers and my Welsummer with the hopes that I might get some nice, dark eggs.

If they all deliver, as well as Poppy laying a nice, blue egg, I'll have the coveted rainbow egg basket at last!

Yes, no egg yet from Aurora. I am not expecting very dark though, especially when the Meyer website says it may not lay very dark eggs. I also have 3 more in the brooder growing out. She is such a pretty girl, very striking. Both of them are. Austra is a real athlete, and I am not sure how well you can see it in the photos, but she has the tiniest little black strands through her feathers, along with the bigger black spots. I can't wait until she lays,, hopefully she will take more from the Leghorn in that department, and give me white eggs. That is what I am hoping for!

WOW.. only 40 eggs a year, and bantam size at that? Maybe it is just her. I hope you get those dark eggs too. We will wish for each other!

OH MY GOSH!!! My MIL just texted me to say that Peppy was crowing this morning! I can't believe it. I can't wait to hear it. I guess he's finally growing up.

Congrats!! They sure take a long time to mature! Mine are finally starting to integrate with the rest of my flock, altho my silkie roosters still pick on them a lot. I found someone to take one of the silkies so maybe that will help. My Ameruacanas pullets are still far from laying but by spring I should be able to hatch some!

I can't wait to see the babies. I think I might try to hatch a few too

Yeah, that's not very good advertising... But at least they are honest. I think the Austra Whites are supposed to lay light brown eggs (which, looking at egg color genetics, would make sense when crossing a brown egg layer with a white egg layer).

Yup, I definitely think at least that part is just Frou-Frou. She lays a few eggs here and there over the spring, and then in the summer she lays about 6-8 eggs a month, usually in week-long bursts. I dunno, she's odd. She also has bad eyesight and still kind of honks like a teenager rather than clucking.

This is a Frou-Frou egg, by the way, the one in the center. The one on the right is a Sebright bantam egg, and I think the one on the left belongs to my Silkie, Marge, but I don't remember for sure.

Was just looking at Austra Whites on Meyer's page and they say off-white/tinted colored eggs and that pullets have been known to lay as early as 12 weeks. Whoa! I've recently fallen in love with Partridge Rock hens after seeing a few pics of The Chicken Chicks, the nice reddish ones are so pretty. But I also want a Welsummer. Hmm decisions decisions. Those of you that have PRs from Meyer, what do you think disposition and laying wise?

My Meyer Partridges are lovely! They lay pretty well, not as well as White Leghorns or Red Sexlinks, but not as poorly as fancier breeds like Polish. They are not particularly touchy-feely birds like the Dorkings or the Marans, but walk right up to me and will let me pet them. When they were younger, they would hop in my lap, but they grew out of that. :/ But they're sweet and so pretty!

I wish my partridge had lacing like that. Mine is very faint. My partridge rock and welsummer look almost identical unless you get real close. They both lay well. The Welsummer might take the lead a little but it could be because she is younger. Both of mine are very flighty and won't let me near them. Even after we nursed the PR back to health, she still didn't get friendlier.
