Here is my brood. Just picked them up today. Got a golden buff, australorp, orpington, deleware, wyandottes, leg horns and buckeyes.

- @christine9- One of the things I have done with our roo is handle them at least a couple times a week. Of course Rocco freaks out about being caught, but he secretly likes having some snuggle time. It helps that at the end he usually is given some BOSS to eat directly out of my hand, while I hold him. I have gotten him to the point where I can hold up his treat higher in the air and he will walk over and eat out of my hand. Now he is a BO and they are pretty docile as far as roosters go and I have never been attacked. I know you are torn about him and feel betrayed, but he is also doing what roosters do, protecting his girls. Whether provoked (I am not saying you provoked him) or he felt threatened, he is doing what his instincts call for. Now, me personally, I would try to work with him and see if you can come to an understanding. If you are too fearful to try that, then I guess your options are limited. I know you cannot bear culling him, so maybe an ad in a local craiglist or something. Maybe a farm who rescues chickens would be an option if you could find one. You could list him on here in the free section, lots of people doing this and lots of people getting birds this way. Good luck and keep us posted.

I really appreciate you guys. I have obviously lost control of myself there for a bit. Although I admire the idea of raising animals for food, I cannot. I especially could not kill an animal because it made me angry or because I was not doing something I should be for it. I mean, in reality, I'm a vegetarian and my cats and dogs are all rescued. I even tried to rescue chickens to no avail before my first Meyer order. I think the stress of life has just had me crazy. Even my DH was just nodding at me while we talked about it. Like he was waiting for me to snap out of it. Poor guy! But seriously, I'm so glad to have people here who are so understanding and can help me find my way again. You guys are my favorites!!!

Would babies of my babies be my grandbabies?? LOL.Got to figure out a plan to integrate. I think the dog crate will need to come out. These guys have been isolated in the coop, meanwhile I had to add roosts so everyone would have a spot out in the run. Hoping mama is more accepting of being moved now that her babies are two weeks old. Tried moving her with her eggs. She was not having it.

Hey all, almost forgot to post these here! My young Meyer ladies turned 11 months old over the weekend! :D

Sadly, my other Meyer BCM, Louise, passed away on Thursday after a long battle with her health. :(

Just for fun, one of my favorite pictures from the weekend; Elda, Kit, and Georgie, all vying for my attention:

I also got a few pictures of some of the older Meyer girls while I was out there. :D

Frou-Frou the Splash Marans receiving a good wattle scritching. I'm trying to win back her love after I rudely evicted her from her winter luxury suite in my bedroom. She's so abused.

Ihi the crazy Golden Campine:

Roha the Exchequer Leghorn. She's saying, "Love me!"

And Pogonip the Speckled Sussex. She'll be 3 years old in June, and for the first time in her life she's decided to brood.

Glad you were able to get over the shock. This thread and it's people are my favorites too! Though it feels like its been too long since we've heard from some folks like Nancy and Lynn.

X2 we haven't heard rom either of them in awhile and Trsturself (but she sounded done with BYC)

Christine, making a decision to end an animals life should never be done in haste, IMO. Not out of spite or anger. For us those are the wrong intentions we put behind our flock. We have however processed three roo's since August. It is never easy regardless of the reason. Even when we found our top two roo's In a bloody battle to the death. We gave it a few days and got our heads around having to take our second in command out. It was for the best interest of the flock and that always takes priority over our attachment. Now that being said their are a few that will live out their entire lives with us regardless of how productive they are, at least for now. Not everyone can deal with the struggle to cull one of their own flock. I get that, but that is why people have backyard chickens, so they don't have to make those types of decisions. We are more of a homesteading style situation so ours are mostly egg laying but we haven't ruled out dual purpose. But that is us! There is a good article on here for working with an agressive roo, I will see if I can find the link. I hope it works out with Pep and maybe he just needs some work. Like they always say, don't let them know you are scared. They are probably more scared of you chasing him around and picking him up.

@Pipd sorry for the loss of your girl.
