Meyer hatchery shipping

Had to comment because I ordered chicks again. Most places near me are not selling live birds this year. Those that are have large minimums. It sucks. Hopefully, I didn't just make a huge mistake.

Ironically, I found this old post of mine searching for reassurance.

Maybe I'll cancel that order tomorrow. Idk. I'm so conflicted....

hoping for the best for you and the chicks. We’ve had chicks shipped a few times. One -all DOA, clearly mishandling. One, they were pretty good overall -some needed nutridrench for a couple days, a few died but got all we paid for bc as many died as were extras. Other shipment was fantastic...all live and energetic, a couple needed nutridrench, none died. All different hatcheries and all over last 3 years.

chances are very good you will have a healthy batch of chicks to raise!

The USPO does not like to receive live animals..in fact they dread accepting them and UNQUESTIONABLY go the extra mile to make sure that they are treated well. They called me when my chicks arrived to pu before my carrier could deliver in the afternoon. The chicks were stressed from the trip alone. A friend told a story about a snake delivery that freaked out sorters...They do their best.

i agree..i am sure that happens from time to time and certainly some hatcheries are better than others and it depends on breed sometimes too. i will NEVER have bantams shipped again...lg fowl does better. you can also pay more for faster shipping....and depends on weather as well. i ALWAYS call PO for the time the mail is brought to them and i meet them there. i dont want them to have to ride in a mail truck when i can bring them home myself and get them hydrated and warm.
