Meyer Meal Maker? Has anyone done this?

I spoke to someone at Meyer when I placed my order, and they said if you order layers they give you a meal maker thats a layer, if you order meat birds they give you a meal maker thats a fryer - no idea if it's a mixed order. Usually for a layer I was told they try to give you a breed that lays well with brown eggs.

Our Meal Maker chick is a Buff Orpington (according to the packing label/NPIP certificate).

I know this is an older thread, but I was wondering if anyone had any more information on this? Is it always a hen? I'm getting 6 EE's pullets, so I just want to make sure it wouldn't be a meat bird or a rooster.

Sorry this is so late but mine ended up being a laying hen. A rhode Island red or production red

If you order mostly laying hens, they'll send you a laying hen. If you order mostly meat birds, they'll send you a meat bird. I've ordered twice withing the last two months. The first time I got a White Leghorn, the second time, I got a Barred Rock. They won't send you random rooster if you order all pullets

Here is a picture of our meal maker, the dark one up top. Any ideas what breed she is? I thought maybe a black austrolorpe (sp?), but I'm pretty new to the chicken game...

The meal maker would not be an exotic chick- mostlikely a Australorp.

I know this is old but.. I'm afraid mine might be a rooster hoping she grows out of it lol and turns out to be a laying hen like her cohort next to her..

Well no such luck. He was definitely a he. But I was able to donate him as a chicken dinner. So the reason for his purchase was still accomplished.
