Meyer meal maker

Do they usually have such light feathers though? Or will they darken over time
I have personally never had a new Hampshire. I do know those first feathers and colors don't necessarily reflect the final colors. Chicks go through multiple molts as they grow.
 
This is our New Hampshire cockerel. He looked very similar to your chick.

I've no prior experience with the breed, either, however, I've raised a few red birds, all of which are somewhat similar to the NHR. :) First feathers generally appear rather motley, almost spangled. Final plumage (after everything is molted out) at maturity, on the other hand, will look much more even in color.
