meyers hatchery meal maker

I have not ordered from them, but when I read about their meal-maker offer (if you ask, they will ship an extra chick with every order as long as you pledge to donate the results, eggs if it is a layer or meat if it will be raised for meat) to a local charity or food bank) I've decided than when/if I order more chicks next spring I'll be doing it through Meyers. What a neat idea! For those of you who want your kids to be involved in the raising of and caring for your chickens, what an additional bonus lesson when you donate those eggs to folks in need!

I ordered and received my latest chicks from Meyer, but totally forgot about the free Meal Maker chick. I plan on donating a lot of my eggs anyway, so having an extra hen would have been nice. I also ordered the Broiler Max vitamin/electrolyte supplements for my meat chickens when ordering the chicks and forgot that I could use a different order number and pay $5.67 instead of the $7.00 I paid.

Both of these "deals" are featured prominently in the catalog, but not easy to find on the website. I should have studied the catalog better before placing my order.

The Meal Maker is a free chick up and above the chicks you order. It is not a part of a pack or assortments. You just ask for the Meal Maker free chick when ordering chicks. They pick what kind of chick to send. If you are ordering layers--they send a free pullet. If you are ordering meat birds--they send you a meatie of their choice of the two kinds they carry. I ordered 21 layers and 12 meat birds, so I could have gotten one chick of either free, but I forgot to ask for it when I ordered.

My Meal Maker girl is a white Leghorn pullet I christened Barbie Girl because of her platinum blonde fuzz when she was a baby. She's a charming little thing, if a tad flighty.

What a neat promotion. I might do this next time I order chicks.
