mice and rats

What is the safest way to get rid of mice and or rats in my chicken coop? I'm sure that is what is getting some of my eggs

I don't think mice take eggs. Are they disappearing or are is there residue?

A box the chickens can't get into with a rat trap inside or a few good snakes but they'll eat eggs too.

They don't disappear there is residue but not much. The eggs roll down in the nest box and are covered so the hens can't get to them.

A slow working poison hidden well away from the chickens. The slow acting effect will mean the rats retire to their hole to die. Can't say I've ever used snakes as I live in the UK. Traps work well but take a while before they start working as rats stay well away from anything new.
