Mice in coop, Ive caught them now what?anyone want some!!

Ewww!!!

I've caught mice and released them at the end of the street, near the park...this was before chickens too, even though DH doesn't remember this...

The chickens will also eat the mice...blech...

i made one of those pvc bait staitions. get 3 peices of 1 1/2 pvc pipe 12 inches long. 1-1 1/2 pvc tee. 1- 1 1/2 pvc cap. .seems to be working for me.mice get in and eat the bait.

Oh yes, we have grass hoppers too!!!
It was 1am in the morning when I put the mice in a big box,
i was so tired from website building and had no energy, mental or physical to do anything but stick them in a safe house!!!
When I heard Charlie crunching,(hes on my Avatar!)
I just thought "I hope that wasnt a mouse" and went back to sleep.
Maybe he was crunching on a cricket and the mice got out, who knows!
Anyhow Ill catch some more today, though I dont want to contribute to a mouse plague ill release them somewhere nice and safe from humans and cats!!

You don't have to kill them, just tap thier heads alittle to slow them down.
Then put them back in the coop, chickens love mice treats. When one gets in one of my coops and the cat doesn't get it, the chickens will. Where the cat goes right for it, the chickens gang up on it. Kind of the same way they do if they want to cull another chicken out of the flock.

Ahhhh, thankyou for that advice,

1) I cant tap them on their little wee heads, that would hurt them.

2) I have silkies in that coop and I dont think they would lower themselves to that type of brutish behaviour even if they could SEE them!!

Ahhh, Helen, I saw this thread, and thought....well of course..you cant hurt them! You have such a kind heart. Just put the little buggers in a bucket, with a lid, and " take them for a long ride" They will be fine....im sure.

Your silkies sound like my dear old siamese, Danang. A field mouse once ran across the floor while he was sitting on my lap getting his nightly massage. I swear that cat looked at me as if to say....are YOU gonna do something about that?!?!
As for the mice, next time take em far, far away and release.
Feeding em to a pet snake I wouldn't recommend, because they do carry germs that can actually make a pet snake (not one that was caught in the wild and made a pet, but one that was bred as a pet) sick. Also, although I did it for years they say it's not a good idea to feed your snake live food, as the mouse/rat/other tasty rodent can and will bite the snake and believe it or not, snakes can get sick and die from the bite. So you'd be back to having to bonk the poor mousie on the head to sedate it. You really wanted to know this didn't ya? Hey, it's 7 a.m. and I don't even start breathing before noon, at least!
If none of the suggestions here work, just parcel post em to me. Maybe if I let Killer Kitty play with em, she'll leave the songbirds alone for awhile.

Note to self: Learn more about these silkie creatures. Sounds like they have the kind of 'tude I love in an animal. No! No! NO! You are getting brahmas, remember??

Hey now no dissin the silkies lol, my silkie catches and eats the mice in the yard. but she takes off like a deer i could never catch her if i wanted to. i breed mice for snake food but sometimes i get to many males and they go to the chickens, not live of course i'm not THAT mean, Mine are clean and free of parasites, can't say the same about the ones in the yard but the ducks and chickens are healthy so they can't be that bad around here.
