When I started noticing the little varmints scurrying across the floor, I headed to my nearest animal shelter and picked myself a mama kitty and a kitten. Best investment ever made. Not a sign of mice left in the barn. They even are taking out a few pocket gophers and a red squirrel that have been destroying my garden. I am afraid of poison, simply because I don't want my other animals eating poisoned mice.
It would be best to store animal feed in metal containers with tight fitting lids. I hope you get the upper hand on these little critters.

Forgot we do keep the feed in a chest freezer and the chickens now have hanging feeders.
