Michigan Chicken Stock 2010

I'm with you on all points, Sam; the only problem with May/June is there are so many weddings and events those months. Also, anyone selling chicks...it might not be warm enough yet, and it was sort of a pain keeping my chicks warm enough all day at the last one. Luckily, there was electricity at the pavillion, but there was only a few plugs. That would be my biggest worry, I think, keeping chicks warm.

We are flexible on where and when the event is. June just seems SOOOO far away! Maybe we need to get together sometime in the winter, without a bird swap. Indoors for sure!

It's going to be difficult to decide on a date that would not conflict with someones plans. July is getting into fair season and that presents problems for many. As far as chicks in May and June weather should not really be an issue. They are shipped through the mail without any problems, and at a much younger age than most that would be brought to the picnic. If they are kept in a draft free container it isn't an issue.

How about May 22 -23 2010? This is the first long weekend for Canadians and a camping trip to chicken stock sounds fun

dont forget Fathers Day June 20th.. you may want to avoid planning it that weekend

I'm going to start a list with the suggested dates and the total of people wanting that date and will then post the outcome.

I wasn't there this year but this sounds like fun! The date doesn't matter so much to me, spring/summer is busy no matter what. And the temp should be okay even for chicks from May on. We raise 'em outdoors at those (average) temps. JMO, of course.

I would be willing to do the footwork for the location as well if there ends up being a change in venue and we go somewhere in central Mich. I can vet any venues within the approximate circle of Ionia in the southwest, Greenville in the Northwest, Mt. Pleasant in the Northeast and Lansing (and closely surrounding, i.e. East Lansing, Holt, etc) in the Southeast.

Any time would be great. I am not picky. I would say you can all use our place but we ARE NOT in a easy for everyone to get to location. Monroe county is the most south eastern county. Can't wait to see what the plans will be.

I think the closer we can be to the center of the state the more likely we are to attract attendees. Olive Hill I think your offer is great I'll pm you.
