Michigan Chickenstock 2010 Buy/Sell/Trade June 12th

I just got off the phone with the border patrol... and she said

"de is considered to be a safe product. If however I am bring over enough to consider commercial use then it may be restricted."

I asked what do they consider commercial, I then explained what I was doing... she said that sounds like personal use to me but it would depend on the agent at the border.

Eggs for personal use are permitted, commercial sale of eggs I would need a permit... but again to define commercial is up to the border control agent at the time

Since my 3 or 4 hens has grown to 38 and I have plans of adding another dozen, what's a couple more. I might be interested in the White Crested Polish bantam depending on weather they are feather legged (I hate feathered legs and feet) and just how large they actually are. I prefer the smaller 20-22 oz birds.

Dar I hope you didnt get offenden as that was not my intention. But to bring grain, plants, fruits, veggies anything of that nature across, they get ugly. . Even it being of plant material. I was just trying to save you the headache of getting pulled over come state side. Ive been there and its not fun. Tore my whole van apart, held me and my dogs in a room, then a ticket.

But you know whats funny, they allow the canadian garbage trucks through will all listed above and it doesnt matter. Go figure.

I just found this on the USDA APHIS web site::

Products brought into the USA from Canada

Dairy items such as milk, yogurt, butter are generally admissible, although this is subject to change, depending on disease outbreaks. Eggs may be admissible, although frequent outbreaks of Exotic Newcastles Disease and avian flu make it very likely that they will be denied entry. Hard cured cheese such as parmesan or cheddar are generally admissible, soft cheeses such as brie and soft curd cheese and cheese in water(ricotta, feta, etc.) are not.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture establishes criteria for the admissibility of plant, dairy and meat products returning with travelers and they have the final say about what may be admitted into the U.S. The USDA web site has somewhat more detailed information for travelers, and they can be contacted at 301-734-0814 or 1-877-770-5990 for information about the admissibility of plant or plant products.

That is funny, because we have found the same thing! No problems going to Canada, it is coming back into the U.S. that we always get the grumpy guards!
