Michigan Chickenstock 2011

Looking forward to meeting you.
What are the two downspout type things in your chicken run??

They are feed containers. I don't care for them though, and am going to build something better soon. They work ok, but they chicken's necks get scraped up on them, and their feathers get pretty thin because of the scraping. We got the coop, and birds as a package from friends. I'm still tweaking things to be the way I like them.

Sooo... Funny thing about that feeder this morning. I heard my wife scream from out in the coop. I look out, and she is dancing around the yard. She said the feed was stuck in the tube, so she was trying to pull it down from the bottom. She found a feather in there and went to pull it out. A whole dead sparrow came out attached to that feather. Somehow a sparrow climbed into there and buried itself in the feed and died. Animals sure do some crazy things sometimes...

All I can say, those chickens are NOT going to be helping giving you DIRECTIONS on driving. Just be careful, look out for the other drivers, don't text unless you are stopped. Also, make sure your chickens are all secure and won't be getting out or things flying around in the car to distract you!

Luck, loads of teen drivers here.............if you have BARRED ROCKS, I have a gal in Helena, OH looking for a few hens.

Bringing 9 white silkie chicks and 4 black silkie chicks.

Also, 2 five week old black copper marans roos and 3 white silkie hens that are about a year old from a gal in Helena and I really hope I don't have to bring any of them home???????????????

I am looking at my very first CHICKENSTOCK.

Can ANYONE tell me what I need to bring besides my stuff to sell, raffle, and potluck. Like should I bring a heatsource for 2 week old chicks, etc. Will people have their own carriers/boxes that are buying chicks?

I'm bringing kennels and small cages, water dishes, feed, and a couple of gallon jugs of water. Chair to sit in, blanket. Cooler.

I haven't been to one of these.

Thanks,
Bonnie

It should be warm enough out for the chicks without a heat source.

Things to bring besides what you have listed would be whatever you think you need for a picnic- with chickens, lol. People will need their own containers for birds that they purchase- I think we all have that covered. Do two of your silkie hens have "Mom 2em All" written on them in permanent marker? Thats all I am looking to bring home this time.(plus my gosling)

There will be food and drinks- dont load yourself down too much.
Cant wait to meet you.

Things didn't go as planned this week so I've been outside since 6am hanging wet chickens up to dry. I've got my fingers crossed that the rain holds off.

Need help!

My neighbor just threw a major hissy fit and wants me to get rid of my flock, fill in my pond and cut down a tree in the front yard. While she was barking at me, the roo started crowing. That made her mad and when I laughed, she got even madder. Her last words were, "I'm calling the cops".

So for Chickenstock, I'm going to bring:
14 week old Leghorns, 2 roo, 1 pullet
14 week old Black Australorp (2, I think they are female)
11 week old Pekin ducks, 1 is a drake
9 week old Black Sex Link - 3 of them
9 week old Buff Orpintons, (1 male and 2 female).

If no one wants these birds then they will go to a friend's house if I rebuid his pen and get the electric fence working again. If they go there, he will raise them until they are big enough to butcher. Hate to lose the 6 BSL/BOs, they are so tame and cuddly and I really wanted the eggs.

Sad thing was I just bought a 100 pounds of feed this morning.

Haven't even thought about prices.
I'm just flabergasted that she went from throwing bread over the fence to "get rid of them or else" in less than 24 hours.
