MICHIGAN Chickenstock North - 2012 August or September

If the location we choose has camping nearby where I can pop a tent up, I will definitely try be there. Maybe I should start hatching more Araucanas, since I am sure there will be some folks who want them (right?).

I am definitely going to look into near by camping. I know I'm only about 45 min from Grayling, but it sure would be easier to be right there for the night before. Not to mention, if I have other people who are going to be camping, it could be alot of fun

Oh, if you hatch out Americauna chicks you are gonna get me in trouble! Lol! I just love them. Right now I have one almost adult hen and 4 teenagers. I wonder if DH will notice if I smuggle in a couple more

. Well, he's gotta know that if we are going to have something like this then I'm bound to bring home more birds, right? Lol! No, he's a pretty good guy. I just get the "oh, ****, here she goes again" look, lol.

Anyway, back to camping.... I know there has to be something near by. It's Grayling for cripe sake! I'll see what I can find and I'll be sure to let you know, then post it once I get the new thread going :).

Well, I think I have found the perfect campground!

Assuming I have, it is on the main branch of the AuSable river, which means fishing for those of us who are so inclined. It is a rustic campground and they have a group caming area. Not exactly sure how many of us we would have to have to be considered a "group", but I can find out.
I feel a road trip coming on!

I just might take a run up there to check things out this evening. I will be sure to let everyone know what I find.

I am currently working on putting together a chickenstock-ish gathering for this fall. With any luck at all, it will be at the Grayling Twp. park. I am currently waiting for a phone call from the Twp. manager for the go ahead. I should be getting this call sometime this week (I hope). Once I can get all of that good stuff sorted out, I can figure out the date. Looking like it is going to be around the end of September.
As for the other two questions......
Why? So that a bunch of us chicken geeks

who couldnt make Chickenstock can get together.
Why not? Yes

If you have any other questions, fire away. Sorry I had a bunch of "I don't knows". This process has been a lot of, hurry up and wait. As soon as I know ANYTHING, I will keep everyone posted :).

Oh, and if the thing about the campground threw you off, that's just for the folks that want to stay over.

My birds are not Americanas, they are not Easter Eggers. They are actual tufted, rumpless Araucanas, a recognized breed.

This is one of my lads.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was actually giggling as I was looking at your pics!! I WANT ONE!!!

Might be interested in trading with you. I have my first Araucanas coming next week or the week after.

I'm focusing less on the blacks, so whatever I get that is black I would be willing to trade with you.

There are over a 100 recognized breeds of chickens with many different color variations for each breed. The number of cages you would need would be astronomical. http://msucares.com/poultry/management/breeds.html
