Michigan Hatchers! What'cha got cookin?

@mattsinger i usually keep humidity between 15-20.. if it gets to 15 i only ad 2 tbsp water. it can get up to 30 even without a problem, i only have to ad water like onces till lockdown.. just depends on your humidity in the room.. i also use distilled water only not tap..then when i put them in lockdown i fill the resivoir in the bottom. i also keep temp around 101-103.which is what my bator heat range.. sometimes it 101 and then moves to 103.. . i have a still air.. my last hatch was 15 chicks out of 18 eggs..last time around.. its a nice system, less to worry about.. last year when i started the dry hatch, i really got good results..

Just looked in on the eggs.. i have 1 pip out of 18.. day 20 come on chickies..

interesting
My bator has a fan.....and if I kep it dry, it will be 10%. I can add a little bit of water, but i think because of the fan, that water will not last long, and it will be back down to 10%. If I fill the reservoir in the bottom, it will go to 50%.

i also dry hatch. I don't add any water during the first 18-19 days. My hygrometer will read 10% sometimes because that's as low of a number as it'll read. WAY better hatches that way.

eeehhhh....50-ish. I keep an eye on the chicks and if they look 'sticky' i'll add a sponge or something. there's not really a science to it. it very much depends on your incubator and house. I found that for the marans especially, I had the best results when I finally gave in and didn't add ANY water for the first 18 days. before that I was have a lot of DIS chicks because they were getting too big.

that seems to be the issue I am seeing. I'll go dry on my next batch.

Thanks!

What does DIS mean?
What was your room humidity....and was your hygrometer tested for accuracy?
