Is it spraddle leg? One leg that sticks out to the side?
No, I don't think it's spraddled. It does kind of stick out to the side, but it won't put any weight on it at all...if it does land on it, it pulls it way up and the leg trembles horribly. Chick has just been leaning against the side of the bator...or my hand if I'm working with it. I think it needs to be put out of it's misery. Poor little bugger.

@mindyleetonight I promise. Sorry haven't yet. Still kinda dumpy about sundays massacre. Will be very proactive this weekend on setting live traps. I personally don't know much about guns. Don't own one. I was told to buy a 22 caliber air rifle that has 950 or higher fps and use the pointed pellets in it. Then I could get asap instead of waiting period. Thought about poisin but I have outside cat and dogs. What is good bait for coons? Obviously chicken, I heard marshmellows? Aart I have no doubt you'll do the best thng for the chick. :).

Poison is really bad, not only if you have pets, but also because when a poisoned animal dies, OTHER animals will eat it (think about scavengers/carrion-eaters) and then THEY will be poisoned as well. I have read that canned cat food works well for coons, as well as jelly.

I have BTDT with losing all/most of a flock more than once, although our incidents were from dogs, so I know how you feel. Having some little peeping chicks will help cheer you up and you'l have time to fix things before they need to be in the coop.

@gladahmaethat's what I thought also about the poison. I am going to start this weekend wrapping this coop in 2 x 4 wire. Just the coop itself. The run held up great. Can see the footprints from the pacing it did trying to get in thru pen. After coop is wrapped and apron put around it, it should be good. :) getting big brooder set up in garage also for the 2 month old silkies to go out to.

I ran home at lunch and the two were doing fine. I just got home from work and was surprised to see that the one chick wasn't drying off - until I realized it was #3! And #4 is pipping. I am surprised by all the white on this one - and all the dark colors I have as these are *theoretically* from my "wild" brown EE hens. I do have a silver roo, a red roo, a black roo, and my blue cochin roo - one of the chicks has black, black legs, and one has black partway up. Two with yellow. Will be interesting to guess who is daddy! I wonder if my young cochin has been diddling with the ladies when I assumed it was my dominant silver roo with slate gray legs :)
