Michigan Hatchers! What'cha got cookin?

I think (hope, hope, hope) I am going to be getting a shipment of mixed breed turkey eggs Monday or Tuesday! My turkey girls aren't laying yet but are all doing the mating dance! I plan on setting those turkey eggs, a couple duck eggs and then a few days later some more Polish eggs. My bator only holds 24 chicken eggs so I know I'm pushing my luck but I am going to fill this baby up!

Lol!

I have 3 doz of eggs comin in from Arkansas & south Dakota next week. All milli/calicos!
I cant wait either!

Thought I would throw my update in here as well

This hatching business is for the birds......LOL. our of the 28 eggs that went into lockdown, Ive got 7 wild maniacs running around, two that zipped 3/4 of the way and stopped and two with a pip hole. The ones that stopped.....I could reach in through one of the vents in the top and pic at the shell a bit....and it had hardened like glue to their head. and my humidity never has gone below 65%.. I think Ive got those two in a position that they can finish now. the other two with a pip hole, ..... I cant tell if anything is still moving in there or not. Oh, and we are just starting day 23

One of the shipped eggs that hatched appears to be a wheaten.

on mine, 11 of the 28 were shipped. I have to check once I clean things up a bit and get them out...but I think 5 of the hatched birds are from the shipped eggs. Why mine did so bad ...... I have no idea.

Hello fellow hatchers.....looking for a little advice. One of my chicks that hatched has a good sized chuck of membrane dried on the side of its head....covering its eye. Am I correct in letting him recover over night and then try and soften it with some wet papertowel?

I think that's right. It's what we did last year when a chick had both halves of the shell stuck to her back. She carried them like a turtle for a day before we were able to get her out. She was named Sheldon.

I have been lurking since you started but waiting for the snow to melt so I could join you all in incubating. I have given up on the snow leaving and tomorrow call duck and guinea eggs are going in!

In my experience with shipped eggs...

I do not use the incubator. I use broody hens and get a way better hatch rate. Even my own eggs have better #s with broodies.

However in my case when it comes to broody hens, I believe I have more then most here due to the breed I have. Currently I have 20 broody hens and im takin advantage of that and ordered eggs.

Last yr I ordered eggs from 2 diff sellers and both sets I had a awesome hatch rate usin broody hens. If I tossed them in a bator... I think I would of had bad luck.

Mindylee, you have bantam Cochins right? How many eggs can one hen sit on?
