We got a new dishwasher on Sunday and I decided today that it would be a GREAT idea to turn the old one into an incubator.  Sounds great, right?  wipe-able inside.....a way to get water in without opening it.......roll-out drawers.....

He said no.  Or maybe heck no.  Or something like that.  Apparently i'm supposed to be happy with my 42-egg genesis.

Good grief. I need to stay OFF the chicken calculator. Trying to figure out all of the fun things I can potentially get based on the roos that I have could get me into BIG trouble with bird numbers this summer! (Like the violet laced wyandottes.) The more I think about it, the more I am considering a wybar project for my long-term chicken breeding plans. Just sounds like FUN, and who doesn't like an auto-sexing rose-comb breed?

I'm havering problems with the calculator too. Even on three acres, chickens is a no-no. But I think chicken math is winning! Must. Avoid. TSC during chick days!

I just ended up calling my place and next week is when they start.
The chicks are just so stinkin cute, it's hard not to take them home. Haha

How many bantam eggs might a small bantam silkie be able to brood? 6?
I've been counting on the silkie to be our chicken mama this spring, but I am finding d'uccle chest feathers in the nesting box.

I think it depends how well mama can flatten out to be able to cover all the eggs. I don't think 6 would be asking too much though

That's a big reason I got silkies this year. I really want to try hatching with a broody and I hear they're some of the best mothers. I heard also that d'uccles are really good mamas too
