mindy and jlynnet good luck with your hatch, so eggciting.. come on chickies..

aart my age spread for integrating chicks were 2 wks and 6 wks.. i didnt want to ad the chicks to young just because they were small.. unless you have them aged closer together.. then its should be ok.. but i like to do it slow so they get used to each other. one of my 6 week old wanted to keep standing on the babies and peck them.. she was mean..

Yeah, I'm a little nervous about adding in the day olds to what will be 4, 5 and 6 week olds.

Why I am going to divide the brooder with 1/2" hardware cloth, and probably put a creep door in it just big enough for the littlest and open that at after a week, play it by ear see how it goes.

Quote: No sooner had I typed this when I heard chick death squalling from downstairs..... the 3&4 week old are trying to pluck the tail feathers from two of the 2 weeks olds....bleeding pin feathers, covered them with blukote, which they then try to preen giving them blue beaks which everyone tries to peck at...geeesh. they are viscous little raptors.

The older chicks gave no problems for a week, but three of the 2 week olds left the to live somewhere else on Sat......maybe now the numbers are more even - two olders and only 3 youngers.....the olders are reigning terror, might have to segregate them.

Eddie sure did his job good. Lol.

Yep he sure did! Now I will have to pick which daughters I want to retain and sell the rest.
