Michigan Hatchers! What'cha got cookin?

18 hatched so far! 9 Buff Orpington, 4 Black Copper Marans, 2 Speckled Sussex, 1 Brahma/BCM mix, 1 Exchequer Leghorn/Speckled Sussex mix, and 1 Sultan/Spitzhauben mix. A BO and a BCM are zipped, with quite a few more pipped.

What really surprised me was that these chicks started pipping 3 days early! I was candling them last night and saw that some were internally pipped with a few externally pipped. I've had eggs hatch a day early but never starting 3 days early.

Problem! Need help! The incubator fell off the shelf, only one developing egg cracked. It's not leaking but it's cracked. The one that leaked everywhere was infertile. But what do I so with this one? And the ones that tumbled out of place with it??

Dang!! So sorry. Maybe it'll be ok. Hope so.:yiipchick

I agree with glad put a blanket or heavy towel over the bator if you think the temp is to low.its, keep it warm, the chicks inside the eggs are generating alot of heat right now.. if its chilly in your house, move the bator covered to a warmer spot in your house.

peepchicken - did you put your cracked egg back into the bator, i dont this the membrane was damages.it would of been bleeding. did you try candle it and see if chick is still moving. Good luck with that eggs, hopeing for the best for you..

my broody hatched her 3 eggs, looks like isa, rir, leghorn over ee roo.. only the rir normally has alot of brown in it and looks like a chipmunk, well this little one is a white chipmunk.. the ee roo is all white, kinda cool looking.

lisa thats a good sign that she is broody, my broodies are blk australorps. i moved my second broody yesturday, she was setting in the nestbox that all of them like to use.. so i cleaned out the box next to it, put alot of fresh straw, moves a couple of golfballs she was sitting on to that nest and move her on them, plus added the couple of fake eggs i had under the first broody that were still warm under her.. she was still in that nest today. i am getting 14 pekin duck eggs to put under her, i will do that either later today or tomorrow.
lisa if you have some fake colored plastic easter eggs your broody will sit on those, i have one green one under my broody right now. i tape the it closed so it doesnt come apart..
my hens are isa, rir, blk australorp, leghorn and ee roo ..

My 2 silkies are sticking at being broody. One got an egg under herself somehow. I've gotten an egg every day from the 3 hen so I have no idea where it came from. Will probably end up having to give the other (original broody) eggs here soon or I'll start to worry about how long she's been sitting.

Put 36 eggs in the incubator tonight. Have people interested in chicks and eggs on Facebook so hopefully I can sell a few to cover the electricity for hatching and brooding at least.

At thanks everyone. Everything's alive except one that is a chick that hadnt finished the yolk. Had a large comb for a baby RIP.

The others are still moving, infaxt we have a pip! :jumpy

When should I put them under my broody? Until they all hatch and how do I give them to my broody?

peep- wait till they all hatch, and i hear people put them under the broody at night time..

I put 14 duck eggs under my broody australorp yesturday.. to 2 out this am.. they were cold, so maybe not enough room under her.. so now she has 12..

thinking of stoking up the bator again. need to do it quick so it doesnt interfer with my sons graduation party weekend downstate..

Thanks naglady. :)

Here's the chick that hatched yesterday at 7:59 PM. He's lonely but can hear my older chicks in the cage by his. Two eggs died and there is 3 left. One should of hatched yesterday but well see. I find this chick a bit strange, as his mother is a RSL for sure. And the only rooster Peep (the mom) could have bred with have no puffy cheeks, unless the silkie was bearded. Lol he is so cute tho! :love

I keep saying he, I'm hoping saying he will make sure it's a girl! :lau

Thanks, Naglady.
Buffy Broody Update: My broody is now completing her first full day sitting on 13 eggs. Last night I was able to remove the 4 infertile ones she'd been sitting on for 2 days and replace them with 8 marans, 4 OE, and 1 EE. She is a super nice hen and hasn't pecked or growled at me....yet. Even though I was given 18 hatching eggs, I decided that I would set 13 on the 13th. I'm not superstitious, obviously. I don't believe she moved once all day. I gave her some scrambled egg, but not sure if she ate it or some other hen did, but very happy that she's in the zone and staying put. Happy, happy!!!!

lisa i take my broody completely off the nest when i collect fresh eggs, i find fresh eggs in her nest everyday, she will go out eat drink poo and then go back to setting, its a win win.. that way i know she atleast ate and not starving, hope that helps

....

I need some help. Another chick just died, the only other that should hatch soon. They other 2 seems to be moving, and if they live they should hatch Sunday or Monday.

First off, why did this chick die? The bator did fall on Monday, leaving some eggs cracked. This one had a broken air cell so I opened the egg a bit. The chick was moving around and everything this morning. Now it's doing nothing and is dead. When I opened it up several days ago, honey like fluid poured out. The chick was fine up until now. Ideas?

And the lone surviving chick, should I put him under my broody? Or do I put these two eggs under her? They do have small holes with intact membranes tho. So is be afraid broody might pick on them.

So do I put eggs or chick under broody?
