Last year someone posted here on BYC that the town of Dearborn Heights was trying to take her chickens away. Now that same town is using its resources to save the predators.

In this Wednesday, June 20, 2012 photo released by the Dearborn Heights Department of Public Works, a young raccoon's head is shown stuck in a storm drain cover in Dearborn Heights, Mich. Dearborn Heights Department of Public Works employees, using some vegetable oil, liquid soap and some TLC, managed to free the critter unharmed. The crew took the raccoon to the Public Works yard for a "much-needed shower" before letting it go in the woods. (AP Photo/Dearborn Heights Department of Public Works)

Good PR for the city. (Ohhh look...cute baby raccoon rescued by the city from an untimely demise...)

Huge waste of money, though.

I'm glad they saved it and relocated it. Apparently it is legal to do so there. I'm not going to hate raccoons. I am going to keep a raccoon proof coop and run tho.

Kindness to animals is never wasted money. Generally you can tell the depth of someone's character by the compassion with which they treat animals, especially those in distress.
