Beautiful springtime weather in mid-michigan . . . . . .

Standing up for one's rights can have myriad consequences.

Last week I was found guilty of criminal chicken keeping. I now have to report to Probation for a pre-sentence recommendation before the actual sentencing.

Now today, I received two (2) notice to appear tickets for additional charges. Add in another pending case and I have five separate cases in Garden City.

Who painted that big target on my back?

I hope they don't find out that I removed the mattress tag.

Jeeze, Raz... That really stinks. :(

I am sure that he is quite busy, but we have not seen any pictures of emus lately from Farmerboy. Maybe we should start a petition...

Yeah, have been busy. Basement flooded first time since we moved here 20 years ago. The drain was plugged up, and dad had to get it unplugged at 5 in the morning. Got about 3 inches of water in there, but its a walk out basement, and all the water is coming in through the concrete floors as the ground could not hold anymore water, and the house is kinda on the hill. Its a furnished basement, but thankfully we had replaced most of the carpeting with tile last summer. Only the spare bedroom have carpet. Its being cut out. Today, the basement mostly dry. Yay! Oh, yeah, we had snowstorm yesterday, and right now I see a few flakes flying around. RaZ, I will post today's pictures of the Emus tonight. :D

Snow on the ground again, and not supposed to rise above freezing (sigh). Sad that temps in the 40's seem warm!

They actually used Araucanas in CCL development. They are autosexing, and lay a nice big blue egg. There is a lot of work top be done to set type and egg color - check out the Cream Legbar and the Legbar Thread! if you are interested, lots of good info on them.
was just reading the EO thread, the birds I got from you are from Canada right?? a guy in california has spanish EO's, don't dare ask how much he wants for eggs,....the EO's are such nice birds, but not a lot of unrelated stock it seems,at least from what I am reading. My rooster is doing a good job, he now watches for predators, feeds the hens and dances. He needs to improve his dance though cause with some it is grab and mount
I think now that the roosters have been separate for a while the hens are not getting beat up so much, ..less competition,

I took some of those pics to, also have daffodils starting to open, they did not like the cold wind yesterday
after hearing that the UP got 12 inches this week I am not complaining. this little bit will goo soon and the wind yesterday helped to dry things a little, sun and dry to day will help also, May start a new garden area, would like to try some store-able chicken feeds, I have some broom corn seeds this year as I read the heads are good feed.

Need to figure out how to add a free range area to my breeding pen. cutting a door ing the side fence and adding an area is easy, but I need to make sure it stays coon safe?? Still working on that

Sump pump in my crawl space has been very active.
Napoleon, Angus, Titus, Axel, Thorn, Maximus, Slash, Ozzy, Taser....
LOL too many names for ONE dog!! Cutie though!
Some pictures of the flooding in Lowell. I took them yesterday while in town running errands. Most east-west roads were underwater and closed at some point.

Fairgrounds (see the sign in the water and the submerged white fence?)
Think I prefer the snow we are getting to that. My yard floods in spots and runs off down into the swamp below. Sometimes after coming up under the crawl space for the sump pump to push farther downhill.
Okay. I just wanted to share a story with you all. As many of you know, I had a fiasco with some raccoons. I had basically given up hope and was at my wits end, but was surprised yesterday and this morning with some beautiful chicks. Here is the part that really warmed my heart. When I got my Crested Cream Legbar eggs, one had a very strange air sac. In fact, it looked like this picture:

The air sac was on the side of the egg instead of the top. I set the egg and figured it was hopeless. I left it alone, though, with the rare chance that it would make it. When I candled the eggs right before lockdown, the air sac was still on the side of the egg. There were 9 CCL eggs total. When I woke up, there were 7 CCL chicks in the hatcher and 1 egg pipped. That last crazy air cell egg wasn't pipped yet and I figured it was useless to even hope for anything. Well, about 15 minutes ago, a small pip formed in the egg and literally a few seconds ago, a perfectly beautiful little chick emerged. In fact, it was so eager to get out that it even beat the other egg that was already pipped in getting out! That one is still trying to figure out how to get out of the egg.

I love how God steps in and gives us some hope even in the darkest times.
Wonderful news!!!
A dog like that needs to be called Spike! lol! Very thoughtful of your DH Hillbilly!

I wanted to share a gift I received from a friend yesterday. Can't get more authentic than this. His name is Red Bird.
He smudged it, and then explained what all the items meant.... very personal items from himself and his tribe.
The word on top is Magueich which he said means thank you. He's a pretty cool guy.

Stay dry!
Gorgeous gift. Such a wonderful friend.
what do you all think these are 2 of the girls i'm taking to FowlFest???

Aren't they Gorgeous?
Very beautiful birds.

Wow! That is why I live WHERE I do. Area full of wildlife and no such laws here.
I'm glad the story about my strange egg brought some joy to others. It was such a pleasant surprise to see her pop out of that egg so quickly when I fully expected her to be stuck in there or not make it.

100% hatch on 9 CCL eggs!!!

By they way, I do have to give credit to Herducks (a fellow Michigander) who actually hand delivered these eggs to me from someone in Indiana when she went on her trip to Virginia. Without her, I'm sure the results would have been different.
Hmmmmmm but then Upper Eastern Lower Michigan would be too far to wish for delivery like that!!!! Sure beats USPS handling.
Looks like flooding isn't the only thing we have to worry about. One of the oak trees in front of our house split today and took out a power line. Missed the front corner of our house by about 5ft.

View from the side

View from the back/side. You can see the power line running through the pic just below the tree.

And just to show everyone how mother nature is totally messing with us, I took this pic a few minutes ago...

Now now, one must be thankful to God he kept it from hitting. Attitude LOL I wonder how much he lets happen to see if we will recognize what he KEPT from happening and give him thanks. Hmmmmmm let something else happen so we think about what He prevented! Ok done teasing you but food for thought.
So sorry Raz! That is absolutely ridiculous!!! How can it be criminal to keep chickens??? I don't understand . . .
Local law ordinances. Hence, those who don't like it live in those areas. Those of us that do normally live where there IS no law against it. But anyway Raz I am sorry. I wish it were allowed everywhere. It is such a natural way for people to be self reliant.
In all of this flooding, here is a bright shiny spot. My CCL chicks:

Two males and SEVEN females!!! WOOT!!!

Awww!

For those who have not been posting for a long time, you can edit quotations to just the part that you are quoting - sometimes, especially if you have multiple quotes, the posts get very long and hard to read. Just highlight the text and pictures that you want to remove and backspace, it makes the post and the thread flow much better.

don't know if any of you get the Backwoodsman magazine....interesting article on how to make black powder from chicken manure, DH got a kik out of that, I told him we have lots of chicken manure to add to his cause.

The fools who get elected and put those ordinances in place dont know squat about animals.
10 arces and I am allowed only 16 chickens. But can have as many horses as I want

lol.

Sorry about the bullies you are dealing with Raz :(.
