Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Trying to stay positive.

I have been on BYC for a while but never took the time to post on the MI thread. Just had to say I LOVE this picture of the daffodils! Mine look about that way too, without the snow, it all melted off. Right now our little pond has turned into a lake, my ducks think they're in heaven!

Supposed to start getting warmer tomorrow at least, but then it looks like more rain next week, super. It needs to warm up enough so the morels can grow. My 5 year old daughter is my super spotter, and she doesn't like mushrooms so it is all good for me.

My serema hen continues to lay dime sized eggs with no yolks. I wonder if this is always going to be the case, or if she is just taking some time to get things in order.

***Tomorrow is the last day for the Purina coop contest and I'm still about 10 votes short of making the judging table if you wouldn't mind sparing a quick moment to vote again (can vote once per 24 hours) Vote on Facebook here: Sarah E's coop http://a.pgtb.me/9jDXXk?app_data=entry_id=22002330

kimmy, the only way to tell which thermometer is correct ( if any of them are) is by comparing them to a thermometer that has been calibrated, or by calibrating them in boiling or ice water. Google calibrating a thermometer and you will find many links.

The fools who get elected and put those ordinances in place dont know squat about animals.
10 arces and I am allowed only 16 chickens. But can have as many horses as I want

lol.
It is not just animals that these people are ignorant about. A recent road project had several invasive trees planted in the median.

Ignorance is a treatable condition, education cures it. I think that is why so many politicians feel threatened. Maybe I should run for mayor and try to change some minds.

For those of you incubating, I just wanted to comment what a big difference raising the room temp did. I guess they are serious that the room the incubator is in needs to be 70. Yeah right, like any of us heat our home to 70 here in Michigan. I usually have my basement where the incubator is around 55-60 but moved it to where a space heater is heating to around 67 in the room and lo and behold my Genesis can actually maintain the proper temp now.

I'll vote for RaZ :). And for warmer weather!!! This cold stuff is for the birds - and I'm not talking chickens.

I just got Randy's ducks settled in with the rest of the crew here. They are a bit freaked out from the move but they will adjust. I can't wait to introduce them to the pond (it's pretty small but I think they'll enjoy it).

Has anyone tried introducing Tilapia to a small pond? I'm sure they wouldn't survive the winter here but I thought they might be interesting for the summer . . . they get big enough that the ducks shouldn't be an issue (eating them), I believe.

Kimmie, click on my link in my signature, scroll down to the "hatching notes" section; there are details for calibrating a thermometer and a hydrogometer, which if you don't have you will need soon! I was going to copy it here but i thought you might be interested in my other hatching links/ info too.

My first "manual hatch" i read everything i could get my hands on! I swear it gave me grey hair though so i think i'll leave it to the hens from now on, LOL.
