Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Today's weather certainly appears to be one of the days that we dreamed about back when our world was covered in snow. It is going to be a great day to work in the garden. I have one last post to install and when I can stretch the wire for the support system. I should have instgalled that final post yesterday but it had looked as if a heavy rain was imminent so I quit and put all the tools away. The rain never materialized so I will do this morning.

A trip to the Secretary of State office always was a hassle and since the previous office was relocated and made into a "super" center that combined Howell's office with Brighton's the place is always packed. Yesterday I went there to get the proper tags and registration for my new boat. When I arrived only 3 people stood outside the door wait for it to open. As I checked my paperwork I discovered that the title from the previous owner reflected a lien and I hadn't brought the paperwork from his bank releasing it. A quick trip back home, grab the waiver, and back to get in the line that was now 45 people long.

As I sat there watching the "now serving number 37 and trying to will my number 64 to change into something much smaller. Now serving number 44 and I've been sitting for 30 minutes and wishing I had brought something to read. Now serving number 49 and parts of my anatomy are becoming numb.

Now serving number 71. What? 71 what happened to all of those other numbers? I quess boredom changed to slumber. Am I going to have to start over with a new number? Number 117 is waiting to be pulled and I can't imagine how much more time it will take to reach that.

Fortunately when I showed on of the clerks my number and said I must have fallen asleep while waiting she laughed and said she'd take me immediately after she completed the customer whose number she had just called.

Trying to comply with government mandated programs and policies sure can be a hassle. One thing that really irked me was while I have no problem with paying a fee for the registration sticker you place on both side of a boat's bow, what really bothered me is that this is a used boat. A boat that sales tax was paid on when it was new. Yet even though it was now a sale between to private individuals I still had to pay sales tax based on what I had paid for it.

Good morning chicken peeps. First cup down & starting the second.

Cleaned out both chicken coops yesterday & raked out both runs. Drained the duck pool, all the waterers, & put in nice fresh water. So what do the ducks do? Check out their pool looking all happy, take a drink out of that, & then jump into one of the small drinking waters & start mudding it up. Of course. LOL. Well at least it WAS fresh.

Raz, your sebrights look nice. I hope you find a foster home for them. I would foster some for you but I live quite a ways away, plus I couldn't take any of the roos. I already have 3 between 2 pens.

Ok, so I guess I technically have 3 coops & pens right now, if you count the 16x16 enclosure & temporary housing I set up for our broody momma & her babies. That is our portable goat pasture though... & hopefully the hen/babies will be out of there soon. Our goats would like to have some nice "field" trips during the day.

If we don't get something sorted/made soon for our incoming meat birds, I may have to use the goat porta-pen for them though. Our meaties are coming the first of June. Wow, we'd better get cracking on that.

We have another broody hen. So 4 now in the last 6 months. This lady is another australorp, same as my current momma. We are not planning on letting her set on eggs though. We have enough chicks... but oh, the thought of getting some OE & marans eggs for her to hatch out is very tempting! I won't do it... I won't do it... I won't do it. LOL. She's been sitting on the nest for 3 days now. She did come out on her own for a bit the day before yesterday, but has been hunkered down & refusing to move from the nest box since. **sigh**

Tap, I really can't answer that. Some trees can be propagated with cuttings quite readily. Some not so well. If it is a multi-stem you might have a better chance digging up a portion of the root system along with a stem. I'm sorry that I don't have a better answer.

To that end, I'd like to offer a defense of DHs everywhere. I think that us men-folk are programmed to be strong and provide answers to problems that arise. Sometimes those problems are beyond our ability to "fix". When we can't "fix it" we become bewildered and lost. And often there are are emotions that we have that we need to repress for the sake of appearance. Ailing animals can be a huge factor with the male ego, especially when that beloved critter is close to crossing the Rainbow Bridge. That is just my take on things and us guys would probably never speak of it.
I may just try a cutting - if it doesn't take I guess I'm only out my time. And yes your arguments for DH's are spot on. The only thing I can say for both of us is that there is a lot of stress involved at this point. In his favor he never said anything when I told him about my stress relief shopping and that I had ordered chicks!
I can almost guarantee your dog is diabetic!!! This happened to my puggle . . .
First thing we tested and he was negative. He has a couple things going on, one is Cushings. We have been though it before with a previous dog.

I was thinking of that yesterday. I was recalling my "I hate snow" rants wading back from the coop at night. This is my favorite time of the year with everything greening up and popping out. I didn't get anything planted yesterday but started marking off sections.

Good Morning :)
Busy day today, like every day. Eggs are hatching at home right now...hoping for a couple more good hatches so I have some silkies, showgirls and speckled sussex to bring to chickenstock. I'm excited to say my friends from Pennsylvania who came up last year will be attending again! :) They had a great time and really enjoyed meeting everyone from our thread. I'm trying to get her on BYC but she gave up trying to figure it out...we're going to have an on-the-phone how-to session lol. Our older Nubian doe is going to a new home tonight..hoping we can get out there and not get eaten alive by skeeters! HOLY COW! They are horrible at our house. :( Makes for a crappy time doing chores. I haven't had to spray the yard for skeeters in quite a while because pesticides scare me because of the animals...but it might have to happen this year.
Raz, was it you who had those twisty weeping willows last year at chickenstock?...someone ran mine over with the lawn mower...

Waiting around for a phone call this morning......wondering if the PO isn't *as* antsy to get my chicks out of there since there's only 4 this time, and not 74. (These are the replacements for my missing and died-in-the-fist-48hr chicks.)

Went into town yesterday on a whim and ended up at Lowes and scored hydrangeas for $5 each because the tips had gotten frost damage from the really cold night on Sunday. YAY! I can't remember the last time I paid "regular" price for a plant there. Have to take the middle boy in for a dentist appointment today too, so the PO better hurry up and call so I can get everyone settled before we have to go.

Taprock, sadly cushings is a terrible disease... we had a mutt who developed it, and all he did was drink and pee everywhere... we were planning on calling the vet the next day since he was getting so bad, but he passed in the night.

As far as the truck goes, my DH has almost replaced everything it seems in the last 6 months.... including the transmission! He just won't come to terms that this hunk of junk needs to go to the scrap yard! Needless to say, I am back to driving my nice new car, and refusing to ever drive his truck again! - And yes, the truck is still parked in the parking lot at my office! Ugh

THANK YOU MOTHER NATURE FOR FINALLY GETTING THE MEMO! The weather is really starting to get nice, AGAIN! Spent last night out on our property getting our 3D course set up, the big move to our stores NEW bigger location is less then 2 weeks away, which means crunch time! DH and his BIL were doing some building and I went on the hunt for morels. We had a feast of them last night but by the time I got out to try and find more, it was soo dark, but managed to find 4 by the light of a lighter! Anybody else finding them? A lot of my patients at work have said they haven't found much this year......

Sumatra hen brought her babies out for the first time this morning. She's doing a good job so far, though I worry about the other livestock causing trouble with them ... they're so small and not to bright yet!
Goat people.... what can I put on my goats to help with mosquito's? Skin so soft? I hate using chems on them but I feel these little welts on the poor things and they're itchy. (at least that's what I hope they are).
I may complain about my DH, but I know I give him a hard time too so all is fair in love and.. love! LOL!
Tap, vets will make house calls for such occasions, it may cost a little more but I think it's worth it... it's less stressful for the dog and it's easier to manage everything after wards.
Raz, IF worse comes to worse... contact me and I'll take them to get them out of your yard so you can be compliant... but I won't be able to do it long term. I'm at capacity for the most part as it is until Chicken stock!
