Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Someone asked me what I'd want to come back as, well I'd come back as a CAT! Nobody would mess with me (except the most dangerous predator - MAN).

One of two I have, the other is a black male. At present they are nothing but trouble. This one thinks my expensive flyrod is a toy - no kitty. Anyway, as with any animal you choose to keep there are consequenses, responsibilities, and fun! Anyone that decides to get a cat should have it fixed as not to create ferals and unwanted offspring.

Love the pic of the pretty kitty.
I am wondering about the messy vent.
Also, Crispy, the awesome BO hen we are fostering has begun her molt...I am wondering will her feathers be back for fair in August? Also, is there a way to calm her PMS, as I have heard it called, she is really loud, like a screaming child all of he time. Is there a way to hurry the molt along? Thanks!

I guess I might as well continue the cat theme for today

Moulting birds can benefit from an increased protein diet. Try add some cat food.

Sorry guys I was unable to update the list for CS for helping out...Saturday, I worked in the yard with DH to get some of the poles for the goat shelter set and just felt worse as the day progressed. I ended up sleeping on the couch the rest of the day Saturday and all day Sunday. Still feel crappy but went to work and will hibernate in my office for as long as I can stand it.

Mom, sorry to hear about all the trouble you've been having. You've been missed here and I hope you'll stick around and come to CS.

free... if I had the gumption, the fort thing would be great for my goats to play on... or a good frame start to a coop for someone...

SO TIRED!

I just popped in here & it took a while to read up all the posts. I wish I had more time to comment on all the posts, but at least I can give an update from my neck of the woods.

DH has been redoing the shingles on our roof this weekend. Way too much fun - Not! We have a large roof (nearly 30 square)... We'd be lucky if it were half done. We have a steep peak in the front that is "naked" right now, but tarped for the rain. Hoping to get that done soon. Still need to do the peak, above the garage, & above the porch... DH has been working on the roof since Friday & is so sore all over. He didn't sleep last night at all & is now off to work a 10 shift. Yikes.

We had a big crew out again yesterday... I did a lot of cooking for Saturday's crew, but yesterday DH wanted a "bucket of chicken" from town to feed the guys. So we spent about $100 at KFC... and came home with undercooked chicken! Which of course we noticed AFTER everybody had eaten. GRR. Not happy about that. I already called them and left a lovely message on their machine, and I emailed the corporate office with a picture of the gross chicken (there were 2 small buckets leftover and they were all undercooked). I'm sure I won't hear back from them.

Speaking of eating chicken... My daughter got her meat birds for 4H last week. 12 little cornish cross chicks. They're cute... but I'm so tired of raising chicks. We've been doing it since January. Glad DD is taking care of these ones. I hope she does well & will show 2 of them at the fair this fall.

Our goats got out of their portable pen yesterday. We're all up in the front yard working, and here come 3 little goats mowing the lawn and grazing all the way to the dumpster (for shingles). What in the world?! EEK. So we haul the little buggers all the way to the back field & back into their pen. It wasn't wired very well apparently, but that's all fixed now. Upon inspection... THEY ATE MY GARDEN! Ugh. Luckily they left the sunflowers and corn alone. But they managed to take out the brussel sprouts, cabbages, & broccoli plants. :( They were doing so well too! The plants were nice & big & healthy... now their roots & stump. We'll have to replant a major part of the garden. All that work.

Since our roof project is taking up so much time... I'm not sure if we'll actually get to come to Chickenstock! Very frustrating. We can only work on the roof when it's not raining, & when we're not working at our jobs. I really need to sell off my overstock of silkie chicks (& looking forward to getting some BCM's). And I HAVE to see everybody & chit chat & I really want to go. I have my "gift" all ready for the prize table. Keep your fingers crossed for us. It's still on our schedule of things to do, but hopefully the roof doesn't decide it needs to come first.

Lastly, our Rouen ducks are HUGE. I'm holding out hope that we actually have 1 male & 1 female. So far it looks that way. :) :)

Well, I'm off to paint the inside of the new coop area. DH plans on putting our Polish, Houdan, and silkies in there. He doesn't like that the polish and the houdan get picked on I think. I picked up our little banty chicken yesterday and noticed that she's getting quite bare on her back. She was a 'favorite' of the rooster I culled last week and I'm torn between putting one of the saddles that hillbilly hen sent me or just leaving her be. If I DO put it on one of the saddles on her, do I put the elastic loops around her WINGS or do they go down and put the loops around her LEGS?

So happy to see you on here, Mom2! I so have missed you and your stories. So sorry about your situation. Please come to CS! You can at least hold some chickens and visit with your friends.

Rainy day. Gives me a chance to do some wall washing, since no one came to help me, I guess I have to do it all alone now. Be good to get my house back together.

Nancy, I know my hens pick on each others butts sometimes. Maybe there were lice or something and someone pecked him a bit too hard and caused a wound. With all them fluffy feathers, it's hard to see a wound.

Take care

The loops go around the wings.
