SO TIRED!
I just popped in here & it took a while to read up all the posts. I wish I had more time to comment on all the posts, but at least I can give an update from my neck of the woods.
DH has been redoing the shingles on our roof this weekend. Way too much fun - Not! We have a large roof (nearly 30 square)... We'd be lucky if it were half done. We have a steep peak in the front that is "naked" right now, but tarped for the rain. Hoping to get that done soon. Still need to do the peak, above the garage, & above the porch... DH has been working on the roof since Friday & is so sore all over. He didn't sleep last night at all & is now off to work a 10 shift. Yikes.
We had a big crew out again yesterday... I did a lot of cooking for Saturday's crew, but yesterday DH wanted a "bucket of chicken" from town to feed the guys. So we spent about $100 at KFC... and came home with undercooked chicken! Which of course we noticed AFTER everybody had eaten. GRR. Not happy about that. I already called them and left a lovely message on their machine, and I emailed the corporate office with a picture of the gross chicken (there were 2 small buckets leftover and they were all undercooked). I'm sure I won't hear back from them.
Speaking of eating chicken... My daughter got her meat birds for 4H last week. 12 little cornish cross chicks. They're cute... but I'm so tired of raising chicks. We've been doing it since January. Glad DD is taking care of these ones. I hope she does well & will show 2 of them at the fair this fall.
Our goats got out of their portable pen yesterday. We're all up in the front yard working, and here come 3 little goats mowing the lawn and grazing all the way to the dumpster (for shingles). What in the world?! EEK. So we haul the little buggers all the way to the back field & back into their pen. It wasn't wired very well apparently, but that's all fixed now. Upon inspection... THEY ATE MY GARDEN! Ugh. Luckily they left the sunflowers and corn alone. But they managed to take out the brussel sprouts, cabbages, & broccoli plants.

They were doing so well too! The plants were nice & big & healthy... now their roots & stump. We'll have to replant a major part of the garden. All that work.
Since our roof project is taking up so much time... I'm not sure if we'll actually get to come to Chickenstock! Very frustrating. We can only work on the roof when it's not raining, & when we're not working at our jobs. I really need to sell off my overstock of silkie chicks (& looking forward to getting some BCM's). And I HAVE to see everybody & chit chat & I really want to go. I have my "gift" all ready for the prize table. Keep your fingers crossed for us. It's still on our schedule of things to do, but hopefully the roof doesn't decide it needs to come first.
Lastly, our Rouen ducks are HUGE. I'm holding out hope that we actually have 1 male & 1 female. So far it looks that way.
