Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Happy Father's Day to all. I'm off to do a Rescue Fundraiser event in Davison today, then spend the day with my parents.

Also, there is a flock of EE free on Craigslist right now in Fostoria, in case anyone is interested.

Airing out the coop while the girls have run of the yard. What a beautiful day!

I went to the Rockford Start of Summer Festival today, parade, rides, games and the whole shebang. I took this cool photo I had to share. My husband kept shoving me closer to the spider and I wanted to smack him.
Ugh...spiders give me the heebie jeebies! I'd rather find a snake any day. I walked into a spider web the other day and about jumped outta my skin!

After having spent a rather fitful night waiting for morning I am finally glad that it is here. My hearing aids are less than comfortable but I have worn them faithfully hoping that I would become accustomed to wearing them. However, this weekend wearing them really became a problem. My ears have become so sore that wearing them is impossible. My right ear canal has become so swollen and painful that I can actually feel my pulse.

Needless to say I will be waiting outside the VA hospital's audiology clinic when their doors open this morning. Not really sure what is going on, perhaps some type of skin reaction to the material the aids are made from. All I know is even without the hearing aids in my ears are painful. When you have ears the size of mine that is a major problem.

Only five days remain until Chickenstock 2013. My t-shirt with Silly's creation on it arrived this past Saturday so I will be wearing it. I ordered one with my BYC name on it. Now folks will know who I am. Hopefully I will be recognized as the person going home without acquiring anymore chickens.

Got most of the goat shed framed in.

the two hens that shared the nest and eggs are sticking pretty close to each other. One more chick hatched the next day (another neked necked uggo).. the remaining 2 eggs I candled and they were duds. So cute!

I have been offline for about 2 weeks. My Mom who is 83 had shoulder replacement surgery, against my wishes I might add.. She came out of it alive which surprised me since her kidney function is not the greatest but she went crazy and thought someone had kidnapped her. This is all totally funny to us now btw.. but not so much at the time :) Her plan was to go into a rehab facility for 2 weeks. The nurses and doctors said she is starting to get dementia and that if she went to unfamiliar surroundings in her condition she could get worse and may never come back. Last week was my week to go up north to take my father to his normal 6 mo check up so I took my Mom up there early and stayed and took care of both parents (they are divorced). Needless to say I barely checked facebook let alone BYC and I need someone to give me a synopsis of what happened in the last 2 weeks...Please:)

More like a goat "mansion". Good move running a ridge board and keeping the top open for storage. But, if my goats saw an opening they'd be up in it fo sho. Even being zoned ag here we need permits for anything 300 sq or more. The days of barn building are over except for the very determined, or wealthy. Codes almost prohibit carpentry built roofs unless you use engineered I-beams for trusses. I'm planning a 48x30 gambrel and my only viable option are engineered trusses. I'll lose about 5 feet on either side of the upstairs (sort of). Anyway, spoiled goats at Silly's.

We actually ran 2 ridge boards, there is a 4" space in the center to allow air flow. I will be adding some bracing yet but I think this will be pretty sturdy when we're done. We're a bit lucky in my township, we just have to pay them 65$ and they'll come out to make sure its within certain footage of the property lines.. so there's no worry there. I think the inspectors coming out today to check it. We are also going to build a larger barn some day soon. But I think we'll be building another one of these sheds for the other pasture next year. Then fencing off the rest of the property....... and building a barn to top it all off. I wish we could build a post n beam but.... you're right, it's just not cost effective anymore.
