Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

that's just as absurd as going to jail for having chickens. Jail? Shoot, the cost of housing someone for 30 days would more than pay for what ever few gallons he may have "hoarded"... I guess there's one thing we'll never have a shortage off...STUPIDITY!

@ Cedar: Welcome!

Anyone have any special recipes for Striped German tomatoes? The BIG yellow ones. They are so tasty and look just like a peach when you cut them, all meaty and rosy. I keep making a fresh tomato salad with corn and basil but would like some other ideas. And I'm still looking for something to do with my bushel of eggplants. Otherwise they're going out to the roadside "stand" I got going for the salad tomatoes. I just can't eat everything and some things just don't preserve well. I have three grocery bag full of green beans I have to deal with too. Luckily those don't freeze to bad. I don't have a pressure canner and have never trusted them all that much anyway.

Thanks for the welcome, as for the tomatoes and eggplant, you can cut them into chunks and add to whatever else you like on a skewer and BBQ them, hollow out the tomato and chop the inside and mix with _________ to make a stuffing and bake. I like deep fried or grilled eggplant, slice into like-sized thick pieces, batter or bread to fry or brush with oil, season with your favorite spices and throw on a hot grill, keep an eye on them because their is a fine line between done and burnt.

my new flashlight came! peeked quickly at my eggs. not looking good. one of them appears to have a REALLY big airsac with a spike in it?? as in, the airsac is at the top, is large, and there is an upsidedown V on one side??? How big will a blood spot get? I have several more that I suspect have blood spots and rings, but the spot is pretty large, and up by the airsac? This is extremely disappointing.

On a good note, I have maybe 4 that I *think* are looking good?? I've decided that I'm going to leave them until Sunday, take one last look, and pitch all the bad looking ones and hope that I get at least a few to hatch. Looks like I may be able to write a post on "how to have at $50 chicken."

Oh, and my basement freezer defrosted last night. I'm cooking all the meat that was in there and trying not to cry. We had, literally, an entire deer in there that we were going to make into sausage. We might still do that tomorrow since everything was still cold and/or a little frozen still, but I'm sooooo done with today, and I still have to go to work tonight, which I'm dreading. a lot. I hate work right now.

UGH! So sorry to hear about the freezer! I know how that goes. I had that happen. ONLY it was the landlords fault. I was renting a MIL suite, and they did something that tripped my power, and didn't flip all the switches back... ANYWAY, ruined a bunch of food...
