Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well I hooked up with Clay Avenue Cellars (Bob) and basically threw out all my wine recipes after talking to him. He'll be my go-to for now. Quaint little place in Muskegon if you're ever passing thru. Looks like he's expanding towards food, wine, and beer in the future too! With all the cherries, grapes, and apples I should be all set. And, I think I'll try blends of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, elderberries, blueberries, and whatever else comes in excess. Now, time to mix my first fermentation batch, here we go...

yup, 3rd for me, my departed grandpa from Michigan City is the 2nd, and my mom is the 7th.  We be July babes, old ones at that!

Wow! And, happy shared Bday to you, too!
This past Sunday was my late Gramp's (departed us just 3 weeks ago & just shy of his 95th!!! Had us all beat year "wise"!!)

Raz, for decomposition to happen the bedding needs to be a little moist, so if it was very dry you would not see that occur, the same as in a mulch pile. Lightly moist bedding is not smelly either, however to keep oxygen levels up deep in the bedding it should be turned every few weeks.

Yeah, when I cleaned out my coop after a year, DL on concrete, it was decomposing on the bottom. But my coop leaks A LOT so....

My oldest son will be 47 later this month so July has a special significance as being the month that started me down the path of fatherhood. It's been a rewarding journey and I can't imagine what my life would have been without my sons. The only downside to having sons that old is how old it makes me.

So many Birthdays! So for everyone enjoying a Birthday today, I hope you have a terrific....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

We're doing a full on assault cleaning during the next few days, wash, disinfect, wash again!... I'm giving everyone the following: ACV organic w/mother in the water. Pure Garlic powder on all the food (heavy dose for next few days). I'll be giving everyone probiotics tonight. I sprayed anti fungal spray on all the fluffy butts, they'll get that daily until things start looking better back there eeesh

. There are a couple birds who refuse to leave the nest box, who will need a bath (that'll be fun). I removed the nest box this morning... sorry ladies, it's the no choice plan! I hope this works... I read giving Epsom salts is also good..but I have to pick some of that up yet. Will try using this weekend if I don't see any improvements. I'm going to get some wood to cover the stud walls inside the coop and paint... . That'll be better and easier to manage. I also have linoleum to put on the floor. This will make cleaning much easier. Luckily all the problems are just in the one coop/run and this is not supposed to be contagious.

All the other birds are doing well (though everyone is getting ACV and Garlic) - they also have been free ranging where the birds with the issues are kept in a larger open yard... they can free range out there but I need to rotate them out of this run for a while, and put them in a new area.

Does anyone know if garlic and ACV in water would react in a negative manner? I'd like to just crush some cloves in the water rather than use the powder cause there is no way to make sure they eat the powder, but they all drink the water.
So glad I have this 4 day weekend coming up........I have a lot to do!

PLEASE, NO MORE RAIN!!! at least until next week!

Each day they get a little tougher. That why Sunday's is so difficult.

Mine is the 11th.
If it would only rain at night, it might keep the fireworks quiet. It sounds like a war zone around here.
