Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Raz, for decomposition to happen the bedding needs to be a little moist, so if it was very dry you would not see that occur, the same as in a mulch pile. Lightly moist bedding is not smelly either, however to keep oxygen levels up deep in the bedding it should be turned every few weeks.
I know,
I forgot to add my point that some people think deep litter will compost enough to add heat to the coop. Also the ratio of N:C is way off with coop bedding materials.

Each day they get a little tougher. That why Sunday's is so difficult.
Mine is the 11th.
If it would only rain at night, it might keep the fireworks quiet. It sounds like a war zone around here.

Oh...I simply skip Sunday's! I feel like I am a genius if I can get 3 or 4 clues!! Haven't done NYT ones in a while..I always found them pretty difficult. Which is why I was surprised to complete 3 today. Work the USA Today ones & Sudoko at bedtime...those I can always finish...

I can't believe all the July Bdays! The fireworks are just every1 wishing us a happy bday (personally I haven't heard many around here; & I have I no prob with them as long as there are the accompanying pretty colors in the sky...but just noise, I.e., firecrackers, I have no use for!)

Does anyone know if garlic and ACV in water would react in a negative manner? I'd like to just crush some cloves in the water rather than use the powder cause there is no way to make sure they eat the powder, but they all drink the water.

Not sure on the combo of garlic & ACV in the water, but I have dealt with gleet before. I treated it with ACV in the water, plus gave them plain yogurt. All affected bums were fluffy & pruned within a week. I put Braggs ACV in the water on a regular basis now. Only put it in plastic though. I actually hadn't heard of the use of garlic for gleet before. Nice to know & I will probably start giving my girls that if I see anything come back. I thought about using the Nu-Stock but wasn't sure how it would effect the eggs. I have noticed that the ladies that get most of the attention from the rooster seem to be more susceptible to the gleet.

Happy Birthday to the birthday folks! I hope y'all have a wonderful day!
Congrats on the new grandbaby. Someday I will have one .....maybe....

Mind if I join this thread? I am from Michigan as well.
We would love to have you join us!
Anyone have a fav cherry wine recipe? My trees are so loaded the branches are drooping. I picked 15 pounds before the birds take everything, lol. Tommorow I'll get more and then crush. I've got tons frozen so these are surplus and wine seems like a good idea?
You could always share with someone that doesn't have any

it is hard to get myself to clean the house when the weather is actually nice and there is so much to do out side. but i really need to. i got some done yesterday during the rain, but there is always more to do.
I keep saying I need to hire a maid/cook for the summer. I would much rather be outside doing things than inside. Summer is too short. However it is cold and rainy today

Well I hooked up with Clay Avenue Cellars (Bob) and basically threw out all my wine recipes after talking to him. He'll be my go-to for now. Quaint little place in Muskegon if you're ever passing thru. Looks like he's expanding towards food, wine, and beer in the future too! With all the cherries, grapes, and apples I should be all set. And, I think I'll try blends of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, elderberries, blueberries, and whatever else comes in excess. Now, time to mix my first fermentation batch, here we go...
Please share your recipe. I like to try making blueberry wine. I just made up a batch of strawberry syrup and it's good!
