Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

we found a softshell egg & a hardshell egg yesterday (our first eggs) - none today yet.
Been anxious & impatient, like a daddy waitin for a baby to be born. Guess it makes sense, since our pets (including our chikies) are kindof like our "children".
Our first time having chickens, so a lot of new excitement . . . . . & a lot of new things to learn as we go. The BYC site has been such a blessing full of knowledge, wisdom, & advice.

Congratulations on the first eggs!!! :D

Congratulation on the eggs.. so exciting, are your pullets on layer mash or have some extra oyster shells to eat.. that will help get some calcium in their systems. and take care of the softshell..

Well, I asked for some help with my maybe-prolapsed chick this morning over in emergencies/diseases and haven't gotten any replies. If anyone has a second to look and maybe make a suggestion it would be greatly appreciated.

I put honey on it this morning, and when I tried to 'push it back in" it pooped and then still wouldn't go in, so I have no idea what to do about the whole situation.

A prolapsed hen is extremely difficult to heal and will be prone to future prolapse. I would recommend you perform a cervical dislocation.

My eggs in the incubator are almost done hatching. I think I'm gonna have incubator withdrawals when they are finished...So does anyone in lower Michigan have any hatching eggs? Let me know know your location, what you have available and a cost.

Thanks. Incubating is addicting. I have bought some non local eggs but the hatch rate with shipped eggs is less than spectacular.

I am in Burr Oak. Mine are pretty much mutts, but if you want some, let me know. I am not worried about getting any money for the eggs.

I have a RIR roo, who mates with a red bantam and a regular sized black hen. So, I usually get 2 eggs a day from them.
