I agree with Candy...the chickens really are a riot & sweet. 5 months ago I could of never imagined...
Candy...Btw...I have THREE Roos !! One of my NHR "pullets" turned into a roo. And HE is my baby. I knew when I got the EEs it was straight run, so I guess I lucked out with a 50/50 split!
I just cannot believe ur baby isn't crowing as both my EE Roos started at 8 weeks!![]()
what exactly do you ask for when you go to buy it? is it seed grain, feed, or what? my DH and i want to start growing some too but want to make sure we get the right thing.
All Newbies, I'm sure you will become an expert at chicken math in no time, I went from a small flock of 12 Faverolles 4 years ago, to 60 and a full incubator full of beulanger Fav's that go into lockdown tomorrow Welcome All ..... ~Fancy Favie~![]()
Just let me know ages and I can see what I have available, Or if anyone is interested in hatching eggs let me know I have over 30 that need to be set ASAP 24 are possibly being sent out this afternoon, I'm averaging 15 a day and with a full incy and no broody's i'm kinda stuck LOLI need to talk to you about getting a few fav hen chicks. I'm sending all my old hens to freezer camp and will have one lonely roo friday. I had gotten 5 fav (hatchery) hens this spring and none of them made it with the combination of the issues I had this year and some due to their own stupidity. I'm looking to get 3 hen chicks.
Let me know when you get that coop done for your Fav I might have a few pullets available if your interestedYour welcome. I have a 3 month old SF cockerel (that was sold to me as a day-old pullet, lol) who I hope will be as gorgeous as your rooster. I call him 'Boots' because of his heavy foot feathers. The actual pullet that came with him has very light leg feathering. But she has the cutest puffy cheek feathers/muffs. I wasn't planning on having any more roosters to challenge my Cruiser but Boots is too cute not to keep. Unfortunately, I have a Welsummer cockerel that I will probably be keeping, too. So I guess I'm building another coop and run, lol. Chicken math might as well shoot me in the head right now!!!! I'm a goner . . .
I used this method when the dogs got into our meaties. It went pretty well, even with my dull knives. I did cervical dislocation, and then chopped their heads off after they were done twitching and hung them up by their legs to "drain" for about 10min before I skinned them. Don't know if all that was necessary, but I did it anyway.I would be very grateful to learn from you if it's not too much of an imposition, Opa. I hate to have you do it if you were planning on taking them in to be processed, though... Be honest about how much of a pain in the neck/time suck that would be for you. There is no real rush for me to learn this now--I just know sooner or later, I'll have to do it again and I need to do it with more skill than I had the first time... Or perhaps I just had the Rasputin of roosters. No, sadly, I fear it was my poor technique.![]()
