I've noticed an uptick in the mouse population. I blame it on the complete absence of chickens in my yard. I have been trapping them then tossing the carcasses on the garage roof to feed the hawk. Waste not, want not, eh?
I don't mind the mice too much, they are easy to deal with and chickens playing mouse football is pretty darn entertaining.

Eggs went into the bator this morning. Hatch day is September 14, which is Yom Kippur. Does that mean that I will have kosher chickens?

Silly! My cousins raise scottish highlanders for beef. They are the CUTEST cows

I've done my power-tool work for the day. I cut up 2 6ftx6ft (probably a little closer to 7ft on one side) pallets that have been sitting in our back yard and made myself a gigantic compost bin. I've been meaning to do it all summer, but figured there was no rush since I didn't have any leaves to put in it until September/October anyway! Hopefully I'll have a really big pile of compost in the spring to put over my garden. Now to find a cheap source for T-posts and 6ft fencing to stockpile for next year. Gotta keep the deer and rabbits out! My very-stunted sunflowers were all budding, and then something(s) came through and ate all of the tops off in 3 nights.

Belinda is a week old today!

Yeah, I did. My girlfriend took that picture yesterday. That is me on November the Holstein steer. Its the same steer that "chased" the realtor and the ex-buyer on the land next to us. ;)
Very cute heifer! Do you think she will turn black? Nice baby either way.
I had posted on the other site about her coloring, some had said that she will be black, some say dark tan, others say stay the same color. Guess we will find out when she turns about 6 months old when she get her permanent color on.

Sorry if this has been posted already but I haven't had a chance to catch up on all of the posts yet . . .
There is a poultry/small animal swap at Family Farm and Home in Swartz Creek tomorrow morning. You can pre-register at the front desk. It starts at 7 a.m. and goes til noon. Free. Crafters are welcome, too. You have to bring your own table/chairs, etc. It will be in the outlot.
Hope everyone is well and hope to see some of you there!

Also - I have dozens of empty feed bags if anyone needs them for crafting. I can bring them with me - just pm me. I wouldn't be averse to trading them for a finished carry bag *grin*. Or if anyone is bringing chicken saddles, I would love to buy a couple.

If you don't get any takers tomorrow on your feed bags, I'll gladly take them for winter projects. If you can come up with a pattern for a saddle, I can *try * it... No promised tho, have never made one before.
