Well, looks like I will be putting my pretty Eldee down tonight. She's been ailing for the last several days, though I can not figure out what is wrong with her. Just... going. Think I might send her to the lab. I am really curious. She has always been rather spry. She's also only 2. Her breathing sounds good, her poop looked good, no stinky smell from her. Just didn't want to come off the roost one day. The next day, she was still up there, brought her down, forced her to eat, drink, and gave her some anti-microbial solution in her water from the health food store since I didn't want to use an antibiotic, since I don't know what it is. She's not doing well today at all. She did however get out of the coop where I had her, and is under the bates motel... Ugh! I Hate getting under that... Bummed, but, poop happens with chickens.
My pullet that I put down but didn't put down has definetly taken a turn for the worse. The leg that was back under her, is now back to sticking straight forward. The other leg is starting to split back the other way, and her eyes are starting to change. Got a tote, will be putting both girls in together tonight, and using GRGirl's gassing method. I can't in good conscience let the pullet worsen to starvation. She's barely managing to get to her food and water, but she is getting to it, but once that other leg goes... there'll be no way she's going to get to it... fricken mareks. She's the only one that is showing symptoms. The other bird that had started, is walking normally again, roosting, and eating well. The sisters however...
NOW, for fun things. I got some new pics of my new favorite boys. LOL. Actually, Strutter is, but he's been making a nuisence (SP?) of himself and beating up the neighbors roo. LOL. He rules the neighbors yard now, and the neighbors roo, who used to be an attack bird has been oddly docile. Strutter will just tread a hen or two, then stand guard until a another hen comes by and squats for him. LOL. Oh, the dynamics of birds.
now for the boys.

Never was lucky to catch a bird in flight before last night. Yes, they sleep in their run. I have to get them a coop with a high roost before the snow flies, away from the girls. They are getting frisky. I guess, I can leave the girls in, but have them penned separate. The little dog house coop isn't going to work for the winter. Big enough for 3, but NOT if I want the tails to be EPIC.
