I just understood that the Ayam had black skin, and wow what rich, deep black the feathers. Other than that, I know squat. I am just getting into phoenix, that's about as interesting as I get.

I had come home from having dinner with my girlfriend's family, and my sister told me that she saw 12 guinea keets following their mama. I did not know that the guinea hen had a nest. I had seen her from time to time, so I did not missed her. So, who want a keet or two?

If you look at the extended weather forecast, there can be no other conclusion but summer is done. Over, ended. A 35 degree difference between tomorrow's high and Friday's. This has been an unusual summer. The second one in row where it seems our growing season started sooner and ended earlier. I may have to consider altering my planting dates to reflect this earlier growing trend. The planting schedule I've used for over 60 years has served me well but perhaps it is time for an old dog to learn new tricks.

I had read that the earth was shifted on its axis due to the devastating earthquake in Japan two years ago. I wonder if perhaps that altered our climate enough to affect our growing season. Has anyone else noticed a change that would call for earlier planting?

When I was a child it was illegal to sell margarine that was yellow. It came with a capsule of dye that allowed the consumer to color it themselves. The purpose was to prevent people for misrepresenting it as butter. I wonder why something similar wasn't put in place to prevent people from serving a decaffeinated swill and calling it coffee? Drinking that brown stained water always leaves me thinking why bother.

Now on to my crosswords to insure that my brain is still functioning. Although maybe it might be better if I were to do that first before posting here. A pot of dark roast fully caffeinated, honest to God, real coffee is on the counter. Grab a cup and lets sit here watching the eastern sky awaiting the dawn.

Well Opa I ran out of my regular Black Silk this morning and am drinking Michigan cherry. It's good but just not the same. Hopefully the caffeine content is the same.

If anyone is interested in a quad of sebrights let me know and I'll find a way to get them to you. They need to go. I have to settle on the fact Sebrights are just not my breed.

Also I need some advice on my meat birds. They are dual purpose and all roosters. They are 3 months old now and are free range most of the time. They have absolutely NO meat on them. So what do I do? They are starting to get rowdy and pick on the little bantam girls and fight amongst themselves. I don't know at what point their meat gets tough. Do I keep them longer and try fatten them up, pay to have them butchered now and have no meat or just give them away and count it as a loss? All I know is I am ready to be done with the group of pesky boys.

Opa, while I don't post all that often, I do read many of the posts and try to gain knowledge on chicken keeping. I love having coffee with you and everyone else on BYC! I am addicted to my morning bucket of coffee. My coffee cup holds half of a pot (12cup pot) so after feeling like my heart was beating out of my chest due to all of that caffeine, I now use only 1/4 caffeinated and 3/4 decaf. After drinking the entire pot of coffee it's still equal to 3 cups of caffeinated coffee ;-)
Are you a full pot type, or do you usually call it quits after a few cups?
Looks like storms brewing here on the west side of the state. We got pretty wet around 5am. Thank God for the rain, we needed it. I've been praying my garden pulls through, and this last soak might be what it needs.

maybe that is why you have troupble sleeping?

One of my pullets (24 wks old) just laid an obnoxiously HUGE egg...81 grams. She's probably not gonna be able to sit for a week! Have had a few jumbos & XLs, but this exceeds the largest by 10%!!

One of my EEs is awful close, too. Can't wait to see what color she gives me...

Tap, dual purpose cockerels usually have little meat until around 16-20 weeks, depending on the breed. I usually pen them all together so that they do not run with the hens, they usually do pretty well in a bachelor group if there are not girls around to incite any violence.
