Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

$4.00 a dozen, that is awesome, i would be getting a few more hens.. all i get is $2. which i sold 5 doz this week..

Truth be told, I could get up to $6 from a few people at work as that is what they were paying for "organic, fresh" at the store! I would never get that much out here in the country, but in Metro Detroit...no prob :)

One of the guys I work with is from Europe, so he will usually buy whatever I have since his family (mom, siblings) really only likes farm fresh!

Now a few others have had fresh for the first time & I keep getting requests for more. Had 2 email requests yesterday. Luckily I'll have about 6 doz to take Monday. Told them once they had fresh they would never want "Kroger" again :D

Expanding my run so I can get a few more in the spring.

Brisk, that's a good descriptive word that informs folks what to expect temperature wise and avoids using the C word. The use of that word far to often is accompanied with the S word and I am not ready to deal with that for some time. We are entering what I feel is the best time of the year and I'd like to enjoy every single day.

This is the time of beauty. All of our senses can savor the changes happening around us. The constantly changing colors of the trees, the scent of wood smoke in the air, the sounds of migrating geese, the clash of antlers, awe of salmon returning to spawn. of antlers; each day a day of wonder. No other time of the year so completely fills us.

My old farmer friend has gotten everything arranged so his nephew can no longer be a threat to him and I can see the worry leaving him. While the nephew's antics have cost him a great portion of his potential inheritance he will be receiving far more than I feel he should get which would be nothing. However, I have avoided any discussions with regard to his estate and when he started speaking towards that with the attorney I excused myself from the room. My only concern was insuring his continued control of his free will.

On Tuesday I will be taking him for some testing at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti and afterward taking him to the home of my friend Bob for lunch. Bob and I have know each other since high school 53 years ago, and become close after I joined the fire department in 1970. He and I worked together, hunted and fished together, so naturally he became part of my farmer friend's life as well.

Last year Bob and his wife bought an old farm house in Romulus that was desperately in need of repair. My son David and our crew spent many days last year modernizing it while still retaining its antique appeal. This month he has started working on all of the outbuildings.

While I had just spent several hours with him Thursday evening, my old farmer still needed to call me yesterday to verify that I will be picking him up Tuesday morning. I is excited to see Bob's place and its wonderful to see him excited about doing something now that he is no longer worried about his fate.

Opa,
You can use the C word. There is frost on my lawn & I had to turn the heat on in the house...after having the AC on a little over 48 hours ago since the heat index was over 100....70 degree temp swings are rough..:/

I still think use of the C word should be avoided solely because of its relationship with the S word. Well I'm off to work my crossword puzzles for their affirmation of my continual brain function.

Ok. I'll give ya that one! I certainly do NOT want to rush the S word! So we stick with "brisk" for now :)

Wish I would've covered a few of the herbs in the garden....

No hatch progress over night. The eggs are still talking but the zips are the same. Actually they look more like cracks. I think it will be a long day.

It was (is) pretty brisk here. The thermometer under the covered patio reads 40. Thank goodness for coffee and crosswords to help warm up the morning.

I just got back from the Michigan gamebird breeders fall swap. Lots of chickens, geese, quail, peas, ducks, rabbits, pheasants, and pigeons. I saw some pigeons that I've never seen before, they were German somethings, can't remember, but their beaks were really different. And some of the pigeons were huge. Someone there had some really nice lt brahmas I know i'm going to regret not getting. I just really don't need anymore chickens. I did get a chocolate runner for a buddy to my white runner. Cutlers was there which is nice- no shipping.
