Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Granny sure is excited. One of her nieces is coming today and will be staying with us until next Monday. Her oldest brother was killed during WWII and he never saw his daughter. When she visits she likes hearing Granny's memories of her father. After her return to St Louis next Monday, we have a few days for Granny to recuperate before her other niece comes to visit.

I had some start at 16 weeks (suspect it was my Production Reds); one of my EEs started 2 weeks ago at 23 weeks, the other is still holding out on me!

I have 11 hens (4 PRs, 3 NHRs, 2 BCMs & 2 EEs). I got 10 eggs on Friday so everyone is now laying except Spaz (EE, runt, lowest on pecking order & my baby!!). They are 26 weeks (except the BCMs which are 30 & 32 weeks).

I suspect you are VERY close :)

It's been a busy few days. My son took a doe for the youth hunt, so now we have venison to process. Took a ride up to Sault St. Marie to a quilt show. They had one nice chicken quilt. Set up for this weekend's bow shoot. Had a fun time chasing an escapee pheasant girl. The poor thing wanted back in so bad and my little modern game hen kept chasing her off. I've decided to give away my meat roos. This week is the last date for processing and I don't think they are worth the cost, the boney big guys. So they will go to my brother.

Please help me brainstorm. Tomorrow night is my meet the chickens event. I have tried to plan for all situations I can think of. I have an old playpen with cloth in the bottom and I put netting on the top to contain the chickens. I have clorox wipes and baby wipes for messes. Hand sanitizer for after. Carpet squares to stand birds on and receiving blankets if any one wants to hold one on their lap. I have chicken books galore and chicken book marks to hand out. Besides what I have to say, am I missing anything?

Working on the front porch I found this beauty in a potted plant. Apparently also working on a front porch..,.

That's cool. I have a pic of a spider that was on my property that I need to post. Maybe you can help identify?

she is really pretty.

my pullets are 16 weeks old, i am really looking forward to them starting to lay.

I have had a couple of heritage RIRs lay under 20 weeks, but other then those two I dont look for eggs under 20 weeks, most are about 24 weeks.

I still have two beautiful Delaware pullets to rehome. The are approaching POL, and are very nice size, going to be nice 4-5lbs. Laying Xlarge brown eggs. One White with black tips and one black and white 'painted'. Both very sweet and gentle, eat from my hands , literally.

Fall is here and cold ! Last two mornings low 30s, the year without a summer her, not one vine ripened tomato this year from 40 plants, and the sweet corn not an ear. Just little empty ones.

Congratulations to your son.

How about a bag of meal-worms or other treats? Maybe a capture net if someone lets a bird get loose and it gets frightened and runs?

You will do great.
