lol, that works too. i think he's mostly afraid that i'm going to want another coop soon (which of course i do, but that isn't the point). on the other hand, i get to buy some more rabbits next year instead, so it sort of works out.

now, if we were to end up with a roo, it might be different. i might just have to try out my broodies as mothers when they happen. but he is right, we don't need more birds right now. i just want.

My DH will just walk into the basement randomly and find it full of eggs that were set 2 weeks ago.

Hey Opa, what was the oil you spray your fruit trees called again? My honeycrisp flowered this year, and it's got a companion tree nearby now, so I'm thinking I may get one or 2 apples off it next year (will be its 4th year in the yard). I'd like to take better care of my trees in general since I also planted a peach and a pear 2 weeks ago, and I know nothing about caring for fruit trees except about removing dead branches, thinning peaches, and removing fallen fruit.

somehow my DH is managing to resist the chicken math.  he won't let me get any more birds yet, and probably not next year either :(  even though we lost 3 of the chicks we bought this year and now 4 are going to be going to live with a friend and thus we have plenty of space for another bunch in the spring. he isn't convinced yet, but i do plan on continuing to try. i want some marans and i don't know what else to add to the variety in my egg basket ;)

I am so cracking up. I was gonna get 4 hens. Now have 11 + 3 Roos. Opa built me a run extension & built an enclosure within it so that I am already set with a section that can be sectioned off for the pullets I already plan on getting in the spring!!!

Here is my "rainbow" that was in the nest after work yesterday. Gotta have those Marans! They really add some beauty to the eggs I sell at work...I am getting more orders than I can handle!

In progress extension (I have to finish painting). Has a 4'x8' section inside where I just have to shut a door & can easily add new birds during their "intro to flock phase "

Well crap. My juvenile chicks now have lice. Well, at least it looks like the ameraucana's do. One has no beard, and I thought it was because of its overgrown top bill, but when I was looking it over tonight (it's the friendliest one of the bunch and ALWAYS runs up to me when I go in the run) I noticed eggs on the few beard feathers it has.

Now, how in the HECK do I get lice out of a chicken's BEARD? I grabbed it and dusted its bottom with sevin already, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to manage the rest.

Sweet Spider. I don't know what it is, but is that a Mother-in-Laws-Tongue plant?
Juise told me it is a marbled orbweaver aka pumpkin spider.
The plant is a corn stalk plant (Dracaena fragrans).

The spider will have to find a new home soon. The plants need to come in before it gets too cold.
