Taprock, sounds GREAT - good luck and have fun!
What quilt show?!
I would recommend that you obtain a Ortho orchard book as it goes into great detail about the various method of training fruit trees and the necessity for pruning. You really will get more quality apples from less. Fruit trees need to be spray with Volck oil spray in late winter to kill insect eggs, larvae, and over wintering adults. Your next spraying won't be until the blossoms start falling and this should a an spray recommended for fruit trees. You will want to spray several times over the course of the summer.Hey Opa, what was the oil you spray your fruit trees called again? My honeycrisp flowered this year, and it's got a companion tree nearby now, so I'm thinking I may get one or 2 apples off it next year (will be its 4th year in the yard). I'd like to take better care of my trees in general since I also planted a peach and a pear 2 weeks ago, and I know nothing about caring for fruit trees except about removing dead branches, thinning peaches, and removing fallen fruit.
You're lucky it wasn't a swan. They;ve been known to break bones. One of my jerseys smacked me in the face with her wing at bedtime. Holy crap those birds are strong! She gave me a bloody nose! I'll be checking for a shiner in the morning. It'd be fun explaining that to people... What happened to you? Oh, my chicken b****ed slapped me. LOL

Lol, if I asked my hubby, he would say no, too. I just come home with chicks and he has to deal with it! He sure doesn't ask me permission for everything he gets.
somehow my DH is managing to resist the chicken math. he won't let me get any more birds yet, and probably not next year eithereven though we lost 3 of the chicks we bought this year and now 4 are going to be going to live with a friend and thus we have plenty of space for another bunch in the spring. he isn't convinced yet, but i do plan on continuing to try. i want some marans and i don't know what else to add to the variety in my egg basket![]()

LOL,lol, that works too. i think he's mostly afraid that i'm going to want another coop soon (which of course i do, but that isn't the point). on the other hand, i get to buy some more rabbits next year instead, so it sort of works out.
now, if we were to end up with a roo, it might be different. i might just have to try out my broodies as mothers when they happen. but he is right, we don't need more birds right now. i just want.
LOL, Precious! we were going to have six hens...yup. Six...Well then! we ended up with eight, lost one...added two...lost another and now looking to add another two! I love the purty colors on your eggs! we will be you soon, although I only have TwoTone as a Roo and he doesn't seem to be doing much "roo" stuff other than crowing...I would love to see some babies in the springI am so cracking up. I was gonna get 4 hens. Now have 11 + 3 Roos. Opa built me a run extension & built an enclosure within it so that I am already set with a section that can be sectioned off for the pullets I already plan on getting in the spring!!!
Here is my "rainbow" that was in the nest after work yesterday. Gotta have those Marans! They really add some beauty to the eggs I sell at work...I am getting more orders than I can handle!
In progress extension (I have to finish painting). Has a 4'x8' section inside where I just have to shut a door & can easily add new birds during their "intro to flock phase "
