IMG. HOME NEEDED: this cat and this chicken have the sweetest relationship. When all of the hen's bird buddy's were eaten by coyotes the hen cried for them until this orphaned kitten showed up. Now the two are absolutely inseparable! They play together, eat together, they even sleep together. Sadly, the owner of the hen has to find her a new home but can't find anyone to take both of them together. Please, if you can adopt this special pair, message me for contact information. They arin kalamazoo, Michigan.

The morning crosswords are done, the first pot of coffee is almost empty and I'm ready for this day to get underway.

Hope had made an incredible cake with apples, raisins, and black walnuts that I had planned on having for dessert last night. However, after stuffing myself with schweineschnitzel I had no room so I guess I will just be forced to have cake for breakfast.

I need to go out to the Welsummer coop before daylight and see if I can't catch a rooster before he comes off the roost. It's funny how things seem to work out. A few weeks ago I tried to give away some beautiful young Welsummer cockerels and couldn't so I took them to the area nature center to be used as food for their raptor rehabilitation program. Now that I'm down to two, one of our fellow members is in need of one. So rather than his being without I am giving him my backup bird. Should anything happen to my lone rooster I can get some fertile eggs from him so my flock really won't be at risk and he can keep his going. Members helping members is what will keep this thread going and make it a truly wonderful site.

Later this morning I have an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon to discuss the problem with my hips and knees. While I'm sure there is nothing that can be done to correct the problem for this years hunting season, perhaps it will be the last year that walking any distance is a problem.

As my seventh decade looms in the near future I can't help but recall the warning given by my father that aging isn't for the faint of heart and I'm certainly finding that to be the case. One thing I do know is that we need to live each day to its fullest as the time when we no longer can comes much quicker than we ever thought possible.

Hmmm..maybe I should give ya one of my 3 roosters...they ALL are doing the "roo" stuff...ALL the time!! Poor girls!! I am not gonna do chicks...once was enough for me; I will be getting older pullets in Spring! Roos are strictly predator control for my flock...and they are doing an exceptional job. In fact, Blackie appears to even be able to count...he will NOT go to the coop until ALL of the girls are accounted for!!

I do not seem to be able to get enough caffeine in my system this morning...I am currently trying a Macchiato with THREE (3) shots of espresso...my 3am brew just isn't cutting it... That cake sounds SO good...I believe cake to be a fantastic breakfast. Eggs, fruit..VERY healthy :))

I've got to rehome a nice black Ameracauna cockrel; he's odd man out here and needs a flock of his own. Mary

For all of you out there, Mary has beautiful healthy birds! I have Pearl and Jet from her flock and they are gorgeous! I wish I could take this bird! Hope you find a good home for him Mary. I will take and post pictures of the beauty pullets I got from Mary later

mine too,

I know nothing about spiders. Juise identified it for me.
She had a link to an ID website, http://bugguide.net/node/view/3/bgpage

was wondering how Juise was?
Hey welcome back, you are missed,

I am so cracking up. I was gonna get 4 hens. Now have 11 + 3 Roos. Opa built me a run extension & built an enclosure within it so that I am already set with a section that can be sectioned off for the pullets I already plan on getting in the spring!!!

Here is my "rainbow" that was in the nest after work yesterday. Gotta have those Marans! They really add some beauty to the eggs I sell at work...I am getting more orders than I can handle!

In progress extension (I have to finish painting). Has a 4'x8' section inside where I just have to shut a door & can easily add new birds during their "intro to flock phase "

Love your coop and run, Very nice

Well crap. My juvenile chicks now have lice. Well, at least it looks like the ameraucana's do. One has no beard, and I thought it was because of its overgrown top bill, but when I was looking it over tonight (it's the friendliest one of the bunch and ALWAYS runs up to me when I go in the run) I noticed eggs on the few beard feathers it has.

Now, how in the HECK do I get lice out of a chicken's BEARD? I grabbed it and dusted its bottom with sevin already, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to manage the rest.
might try ivermechten, gets rid of some not all types

FINALLY finished the foundation for the new coop (I installed the sill plate today). Now on to framing.

very nice how big is it?
At the high school. They have it every year.

A net is a great idea and I have been trying to find one locally for the past three months with no luck. All the birds going I can catch when they are free ranging or they come to me, so hopefully they are ok.

Chicks this time of year .... And farther north than me! Very envious but I'm still trying to get rid of a few more before the s word.
check the fishing det. I got a nice big net cheap at the end of fishing season one yr that I use for my chicken net

very sweet!! good luck finding them a home

Did you let them hatch naturally or in an incubator? I think...THINK...if I add to the flock I would like it done naturally and let the momma's (if I HAVE any broodies that is
smile.png
-none yet) raise the babies. They would all be EE mix though. Has anyone crossed EE Roo with Red sex links, chanteclers, or Americauna? The only hope I have of broody MAYBE the pure breds...unless if I am lucky to get Jake's Delawares maybe they might go that way? I heard Delawares are not usually broody either.
