Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It's funny. Some people are stuck in the dark ages. I love when I know more about a power tool then the dude selling it to me. It's that look that they know they bit off more then they can chew that makes being a girl who owns more power tools then they ever will worth it :)

I know, right? My previous supervisor started telling me something he just learned about how when plastering/sanding, the goal.is not to be absolutely flat. I stared blankly, then said, no, you have a slight bulge to disguise the joint. He, at least, is not the least sexist or offended by my knowledge. Lol.

I agree on using existing fence as one side, that would mske everything in one area then too.

Where do you get a heated hose from? Do they cost a lot in electricity?

Ditto that question.

Every so often I check my zoning... We have a new residential community going up on the far side of our block, just through the trees. We've been changed to R2-A now. I have been trying to find what that means. The zoning now effects 5 of us chicken owners. I hope that we will be grand-daddied...

This is something I need to do, which will be easy with the land swap already in action.

You mean they can just change your zoning without informing you first ?

I would understand this in GC for RaZ :D

I, mean, whenever anyone wants to do something with their property they (ZBA) usually send letters to all the adjoining neighbors to get their input,I would think they couldn't just arbitrarily change your zoning without some kind of notification. Then again, when it comes to gvt entities at all levels, I have guess I have learned that what makes sense is usually NOT what they do.....:/

On another note. Storming here. In the middle of processing 6 pints of apple butter..power goes out. Never been so glad that I have a gas stove!

First time making apple butter. Note to self; it takes FOREVER to cook down & reach the right consistency.

Apple pie filling today..first have to buy sugar as I went thru a whole 4lb bag of the butter..thought I had more in the pantry, but I have also been making tons of applesauce, so been going thru tons of it...I don't want to go out in the rain :(

congratulations!! a wonderful article  :thumbsup
chickens are now officially therapeutic, right?  :thumbsup

X2 :thumbsup

I can't believe how therapeutic they are for ME!!!

Speaking of which, I know someone asked this in a previous post, but I, too have been wondering if anyone knows the status of the lady w/the kids w/ disabilities that was fighting to keep their therapeutic chickens (I know lot of us signed the petition on change.org)

Been pouring rain since 1am, 3" according to NOAA. Loud thunder and wailing sirens have kept me up all night and now (at 6am), I'm ready to get some sleep. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

Pouring & thunder here since 3 (of course I've been up since 2a, one would think after a 90 min massage last nite I'd've been able to sleep more than 4 hours..). Got drenched going out to open coop door, & water is a tad deep rite now in front of coop/run...glad it is covered :). No surprise we have a flood watch, saying prob 3" here by 7am, too.

Opa your cartoons are always worth a good laugh, thanks !

We are having a wet fall here also, which is a plus, no danger of forest fires. We have had some bad ones in this area. More rain forcast well into the week.

Of the Iowa Blues I have available, there are 3 left , the best of them, the others went to a lady who doesnt keep hers pure. There is 2 nice big pullets and a beautiful cockeral. The pullets should be near POL.

PM if interested.

Not sure how Holland works even though my son lives there, lol. Anyway, I'd march on down and find out how they can arbitrarily change zoning. Does it up your tax base? I would expect a notice and time to review/respond before the change was made. I know that the MRTFA was used when "communities" went up near existing farms to protect them like in Allendale. Hope all is well, John.

So I'm reading your posts everyday and learning alot. I am pretty new still. I have 6 hens, 1 roo, 2 muscovies and 2 campbell's. I have a 4x8 coop my husband made for me and a dog house for the ducks, who are mostly in the pond and haven't really used their house much. My run is 100 sq. ft, but they free range most of the day, so my run is still mostly grass. What do I need to put in run(it is uncovered) for the winter. Would love any winter advice< especially for a 1st timer. I discovered yesterday that my coop leaks, so will have to look into that. :/
